Main Line Thru The Valley by James Belmont Via Flickr: Rio Grande GP40-2s No. 3094, 3117, and 3116 pull a Roper, Utah - Grand Junction, Colorado manifest freight through the south end of the Salt Lake Valley near Riverton, Utah the afternoon of March 7, 1990. This region of Salt Lake County was largely rural 30 years ago, before roads, commuter rail, housing, and commercial development devoured the open farmland.

riverton is so neat to me cause there's so much worldbuilding on the powers. can i say much about it? no we need to completely rework the map to rename things because they're still stuck as mcyt-related names despite the freeing. but some day.
but i love the powers and the way classifications work, the way that the more you can manipulate using your power, the higher the classification. the stronger it is, the more you can use it, the further its reach, the higher the classification.
another thing i love (and i use this with tobias as an allegory for chronic disability/illness) is how you can use the effects of these powers, their downsides, as a balance and a narrative challenge for these characters. not even necessarily to overcome, but more as a roadblock they have to work with to get to the goal they want. with tobias, for example, he has nullification powers, but these come at the cost of immune suppression due to how it nullifies other powers. by suppressing the antibody response they ellicit and suppressing the specific cells that handle the working of the powers. so there are some he can't nullify, but the vast majority he can. aside from the magic stuff we don't talk about the mechanics of the magic particle. yk just that extra fundamental particle. yk how it is.
anyways i love his power because he quite literally will kill himself with overuse of it, and he is constantly pushed to do so by his mentor and the environment around him, and it's a wonderful way to physically show the consequences of the toxic and quite honestly deadly environment heroes are subject to under steele's rule and how the culture around them has slowly pushed this kind of thinking and harmful norm into place within the hero agency.

Here’s a view of the Illinois Central Gulf railroad yard in Palestine, Illinois. The view is toward the east from near where the yard office stood; the Wabash River is about two and a half miles down the way at a spot on the map called Riverton.

Wow what a July 4th weekend! I got a strong kick of small town Americana while visiting Ted and Laurie Shaner Quinn and their awesome family. First a farm share in Bordentown, NJ where I saw Chamomile grown for the first time, and we picked collard greens and other delicious vegetables, and 3 year old Henry pretended to ride a tractor. Move to a small town diner where 2 year old Sammy hugs another baby. Biking around Palmyra and getting drenched in a storm after checking out the firehouse because the attendant was friendly enough to let us in. Hiking the unique terrain of the Pine Barrens, coming upon canoers in a river who Ted knew well. Then eating some ribs at a delicious spot nearby. Next morning 7 year old Elsie Quinn ran a 5K race with her mom in only 26 min, second among her age group. Henry and Ted also completed a 1k in good time. Then a town parade with Philly string bands, a carnival with bouncy houses and a grease pole, a soapbox derby with a crazy MC and seemingly the entire town in attendance. Some amazing home cooked food, tag and board games and picture book time with the kids. Top it off meeting Bayard Templeton, Alex Cook Templeton and their daughter Issie at Smith Playhouse in Philly. Even saw a NYC friend who happened to be in town afterwards, drove him from the Philly Myseum of Art to our favorite Philly diner Silk City, had some dessert and walked the rail park. When it started raining surprisingly I drove him home. And that’s only maybe 70% of it, not even. Hopefully the summer will continue to get even better, God bless America! #america #smalltown #smalltownusa #palmyra #riverton #cinnamonsin #bordentown #bordentownnj #american #newjersey #philly #stringbands #stringband #philadelphia #cityofbrotherlylove #americansociety #july4th #july #july2021 #independenceday #indie #indieday https://www.instagram.com/p/CRATSdTLx0T/?utm_medium=tumblr
