A light sparked up in your heart whenever your eyes landed on the blooming beauty that she is.
Hair, long and smooth like silk– styled in the most fashionable of ways.
She carried herself with elegance and enthusiasm, the smile on her face a constant reminder that there were still things worth living for on this earth.
You couldn't help yourself but lose your mind in her beauty. Unattainable yet so very irresistible. Riyou Reaper was but a dream wrapped inside a distant reality.
How much you wished to become part of her world..
The shriek ringing of the bell signaled the end of the day. Chatter erupted from all sides once Ms. Grier gave the okay to pack up– a mistake on her side, as the voices of your peers drowned out her reminder of next weeks graded assignment.
"Guys, guys! Riyou showed me this cute cafe earlier and told me that she really wants to go there, so I say lets go! I'm starvinnn." Amo wrapped her arms around Riyou, already leading her towards the door.
"You sure that our Riyou said that? Last time Eishia requested we go to a café, Riyou was sooo against it." Rudo recalled the events of last time, almost melancholically.
"God forbid a girl changes her mind! She just wants to try new things and maybe talk to new people, you know!"
Amo rolled her eyes in a playful manner before waiting for their friends to join up.
How much you wished to tag along, experience a day in their world and simply be part of it. You enjoyed the calm vibes at cafés! If you would be able to relax in there with Riyou around was another question but the thought was nice for sure.
Unfortunately you had to stay back, in a literary sense, and clean up the now empty classroom.
Your friends had offered to wait for you but not wanting to delay their journey home, you kindly declined . And after saying your goodbyes you immediately got to work.
One chair after the other was put up, your attentive gaze scanning through each row to make sure that no spot stayed unattended. After a good five minutes, you found yourself almost at the end of your task.
The door suddenly tore open and a loud shriek came crashing through its frame. Your eyes almost popped out of their sockets as the chair in your hand fell to the ground.
"I'm so sorry! We have clean-up duty together but I totally forgot and left you all by yourself. L/n, right? I'm truly sorry."
You did not even register her question, let alone her presence in the room. Riyou stepped closer, her hands carefully reaching for the broom that you had propped up next to you and were planing to use once the chairs were all up.
There she was, Riyou Reaper, all by herself with no swarm of people surrounding her. Her presence left behind a pleasant smell, kind to the nose and heart. It took all the willpower in your body to not fall over and malfunction.
"I don't mind, really. It's not like its a bunch of stuff that needs to be done."
Her lips curled into a soft pout at your cool demeanor. She continued to apologize while your brain did everything in its power to not short circuit.
"Still, its so mean leaving someone all by themselves."
"It's nothing big deal, really. Besides, it was kind of you to come all the way back and apologize."
Though the atmosphere felt suffocating at first you, you soon found yourself growing accustomed to her presence. Riyou was perfect at keeping a conversation, her attentiveness and joyful persona making the interaction feel like a fresh breath of air.
"I totally haven't even looked at the assignment yet, ha. But its still a week away, so I guess I have plenty of time left."
Whenever your awkwardness threatened to kill the mood, the girl found a way to turn the conversation around. Talking to her felt like talking to a beloved friend which you have known all your life.
The two of you soon stood inside a well kept classroom. Disappointment tugged on your heart as the end of the interaction came close and you wondered if Riyou felt the same.
"Are your friends waiting outside?" You asked, not because you cared but because you did not want this moment to end.
This was our chane to get more acquainted with the girl. Ask her about her favorite hobbies, morning routine, interests– all the information you wished to acquire. Listening to her vocie was motivation enough to muster up all your courage and ask.
"Oh no, they already went ahead. Told them I would meet them there. Wait! You wanna tag along? The place is hugeee and im sure the others won't mind!"
Only a fool would ignore such an opportunity, one that came once in a lifetime! Who could look into those jade green eyes and refuse a sweet invitation like hers??
"I can't, but thanks for the invitation. Gotta get that assignment finished, you know?"
Unfortunately, you were not just a fool but also a jester. And with that said you excused yourself from the scene, awkwardly packing your bags and disappearing from her view.
The next day came all too quickly. The night had given you plenty of time to regret your decision and think aboutthe mistake you made instead of sleeping. You found yourself rolling around relentlessly, going crazy at your own incompetence. Why did you say no?!
The thought consumed you even as you slumped down in your seat. Your friends had noticed the misery in your presence and asked you about it but knowing them, they would never let you live after finding out that you rejected the opportunity of a lifetime.
"Their cakes were so amazing! Amo managed to take the cutest of pictures!" Amo cheered joyfully upon entering the room, phone held out to show her friends the photos she took.
"Woah, you should totally post those!" Riyou exclaimed enthusiastically.
Her voice swirled around your ears and lifted your spirits. Without even looking at her, you knew that she had on that beautiful smile of yours.
Unfortunately, you didnt get to see it, or any of her that day. Ashamed of your stupidity, you could not bear facing her. Was it eye contact or simple interactions– Riyou did not manage to catch a single glimpse of you that day.
That was until the end of your last class came.
"The classroom looked spotless yesterday, Y/n. Thank you very much. Please extend my thanks to Amo as well."
"Thank you Ms. Grier! I will let–"
Confusion stuck to your face and made your brows lift. Your teacher shared the same expression before clarifying the situation.
"You and Amo are on clean up duty for this week. Did she not show up?"
"Oh no, that's not it! I will extend your gratitude, thanks!" You bowed, in hopes that the woman would let go of the situation and let you be without asking any more questions. To your luck she did, leaving you in a now empty classroom.
Amo was supposed to..? No no, they probably mistook the plan or misread.. I def shouldn't get my hopes up.
That is what you told yourself as you made your way towards your homeroom. Each step felt like you were planting roots and forcefully had to free yourself from the constraints. And as you reached the classroom, your hands lingered on the door handle a little while longer. You shouldn't have gotten your hopes up, you truly shouldn't have done that.
Because as you pushed the door to the side and locked onto the mesmerizing jade eyes, your heartrate went through the roof.
"Ah, there you are! Was worried you weren't gonna show. Lowkey haven't seen you all day." Riyou was in the middle of putting up the chairs, her eyes shining with excitement as you walked in and set off your bag.
"I just saw the cutest café online, look at this!"
Her fingers bestowed you upon her, and as if there was an invisible string attached to it the gentle motion pulled you in closer. A distance sat between you as the girl held her phone before your face, a distance you were unsure if it was okay for you to close.
But at the same time you wishes to stay as far away as possible from her. Your heartbeat would give you away– it was a mystery how she wasn't hearing it already.
"Damn it, I refreshed my homepage. But I remember the name dont worry!"
You felt her skin brush against you as she moved her body, but expected her to distance herself once she felt your firm form. But she didnt. Your classmate stated glued to your side.
All screws in your head went loose, the sensation of her skin against yours unbearable to comprehend.
The spirit of a teenage boy took over you, making you feel quite silly. You would have probably also sounded like one, voice high an unstable, if it wasn't for the sudden change in her presence.
Like a switch, the girl suddenly grew cold, hands shaking and fingers furiously swiping and clicking through the screen.
Her search history stood on display for all to see. Riyou’s phone had temporarily frozen, exposing her recent searches. And what you saw gave your mind the final push.
Mutliple failed attempts of getting your username right.
If it hadn't been for what Ms. Grier had told you earlier, you would have just found another excuse. Because there was no way that such an astonishing beauty would create opportunities to be alone with you, right? That the person you liked would put in the effort to find you on social media and stalk your account.
"This is so embarrassing.." The girl's voice was but a mere whisper, overflowing with embarrassment. Holding her phone before her face, she concealed the red tint on her cheeks.
You wanted to speak up, say something– anything! But the joy which accumulated in your heart took over your entire body.
Riyou..is interested in me?
"We're you..trying to get my attention yesterday?" Your hands wrapped around hers, slowly pushing them down and revealing her flustered pout.
"Amo made it so obvious yesterday, didn't she.." Riyou chuckled in frustration, her eyes still avoiding yours.
"I didn't even realize, I'm as oblivious as they come, trust." Your chuckled lightened up the mood ever so slightly.
Neither of you said anything, not even your heartbeats penetrated the silence.
Months were spend swooning over the very girl who was interested in you all this time. You had labeled this longing hopeless, as the interactions you had shared together were nothing more than words shared between classmates. Yet seeing how desperate Riyou has been this whole time, it felt kinda nice.
"You put in more effort than me, that's kinda cute."
The words just blurred out into the silence, catching the both of you off guard. The callout immediately reimbursed Riyous frustration.
Despite feeling the humiliation eating away at her skin, the girl could not help herself but feel overjoyed and reliefed. Months have been spend creating the perfect opportunity to finally get your attention– and so much worry and concerns have consumed her mind over that time.
To think that something so simple would do the trick..
"Are you free after this?" She suddenly asked, her heart on her sleeve."
Now the both of you were sheepishly smiling, your gazes finally falling upon each other.
"Don't you dare embarrass me any further, I can only take so much." The pout in her voice revealed a side you have never seen before. The usually sly and sarcastic girl stood before you in a way how you always believed you would face her.
"I've been admiring you for the longest of times, you know. Always hoping that one day I will have the courage to ask you out, or at least establish a friendship. Yet here you are. Even after being exposed like that, you still have the guts to ask me out..I truly admire you Riyou Reaper.."
Her lips stood slightly apart, your sudden confession catching the girl off guard. If her heart wasn't already a mess it definitely was now.
"I'd love nothing more than to go out with you, Riyou!"
