hey, i just (haven’t) met you, and this is crazy, but i made you a hella (hella) rad video only to have movie maker decide it doesn’t like me. (hint: nothing in technology likes me). so here are my whoop-dy-doo fab last minute creations and i hope they don’t disappoint bc ily and rookies and i hope your little sunshine boy gets to make his dreams come true. thanks for being cool.

{`changjo sighs, clutching his phone before shakily speed dialing luhan. luhan answers on the third ring, and when he hears a ‘hey’ come from luhan’s end; immediately, all resolve flows out of him. he’s a coward. he almost ends the call before stuttering a ‘hey’ in response. and once he does, the words spill out.}

"Hey hyung. Look, I need to tell you something."

{`he hears the shaking of keys in a door, and he knows that luhan’s probably walking inside the apartment - just to find his room empty.}

"… And before you interrupt, it’s important. I’m sorry. I… fucked up. I’m so sorry. I’m not home as you can tell. I don’t think I’ll be going home for a while. For a long while. I…"

{`he sighs, static in the receiver.}

"Where the fuck should I start? The beginning is probably the best place isn’t it… Damn, I’m stalling.”

{`he laughs, lifelessly. tapping his fingers on the airplane seat’s arm rest.}

"Remember that time I got really really sick and ended up getting hospitalised? And you freaked out. I’m sorry about that. But… apparently… I have a tumor. A benign tumor, but a tumor that’s enough to have ended my entire dance career. I can’t exert too much energy the doctor said. Pathetic. Look, I was planning on telling you… But you can’t prepare for these things. You can’t.”

{`he runs his fingers through his hair before abruptly speaking again.}

"I’m on a plane. To America. With my parents. God, we could actually be a family again. My dad’s got a job in California.”

…

"They gave me a choice, y’know? I could have said no. But I didn’t. I’m not even allowed to dance anymore, what’s the whole point of staying here, right? No one will miss me, I think. No - that’s wrong, and that’s selfish."

"I just… I’m so sorry, hyung. I never meant for this to happen this way. I mean, I’ll keep in touch, definitely. But this… I just can’t live like this anymore."

"And who knows? Maybe life in America won’t be so bad…"

"I’ll miss you."

"Bye, hyung."

(/it’s been a trying day at work—despite being recently promoted to assistant manager, luhan’s been threatened to be let go even if his shenanigans before as a regular store employee were much worse than the shit he’s been pulling lately. it’s a little bit of and injustice and a whole lot of luhan just being lazy and uninterested, but it’s stressful because with the move being finalized within the next few weeks, luhan literally cannot afford to lose his job right now. so, with a headache building behind his eyes, luhan wishes for nothing more than to go back to his apartment and hope to fall asleep. unfortunately, he has to stop by the new apartment first to pick some things up as well as check on changjo, who he’s been worried about ever since the younger has been hospitalized. he’s just left the elevator when he feels his phone vibrate in his pocket and he pulls it out, swiping to answer the call without checking who it is, far too distracted with trying to remember in which pocket he’s put the temporary keys the landlord had given him) Hey, what’s up?

(/the voice on the other end surprises him, but he’s distracted again by finally finding his keys, and he inserts them into the temporary lock on the door before pushing the door open. he’s about to tell changjo that he just got in, but suddenly changjo’s speaking again, and his words are jumbled and luhan can honestly barely make them out, but he flips the lights on just as changjo correctly informs him. he isn’t there. it suddenly hits luhan what this phone call is about, and he stumbles over to the only pieces of furniture in the living room—the new couches he’d bought just for the occasion of getting a new place. he leans his head back, resting it against the back cushions, bringing a hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose as if it’d help with his budding migraine)

(/but suddenly it feels like too much, the throbbing in his head, the thought that holy shit i may have gone too far at work and might get fired, his recent preparations for a future video, and now changjo was dropping this bomb. one of his closest friends has a tumor, and is now just telling him when luhan can do nothing but stare at the blank wall across from him because he has no words, and he can’t even put a comforting hand on changjo’s shoulder because he just isn’t there. suddenly, it’s become one of those rare moments when lu han loses his ability to speak, and he can’t do much more than listen to changjo’s goodbye)

(/luhan thinks he might be angry at the suddenness of it all, but he can’t bring himself to be because he’s noticed. he’s seen how changjo seemed to have been on a downward spiral, and he can’t help but agree when changjo says that it might be good for him because it sounds like it would. america sounds like it might be good for changjo. and luhan has nothing but sincere hopes that changjo finds something to help lift him up again, because the kid is one of a kind, a great person who deserves more happiness than he’s allowing himself to indulge in. and as the call ends, luhan lets his arms drop lifelessly to his sides, bottom lip clenched between his teeth and, after a few moments of deliberating, he brings up his messaging app, sure that changjo wasn’t ready to hear luhan say goodbye yet since he’d hung up so abruptly. so instead, he sends a message, and hopes that it encourages the younger male he’d come to care for as true flesh and blood)

i need a doctor ☊ changjo & luhan

He'd just stepped into the apartment complex when he sent his last message, bowing in greeting to one of the other tenants whom he recognized as the woman down the hall with three kids and a husband who worked overseas a lot. He would be lying if he said he wasn't curious as to what exactly Changjo had to tell him, especially because conversations between the two of them rarely took the 'serious' route. But even if he had joked around in his text message, Luhan couldn't help but feel like there was a very pressing matter at hand, and that whatever Changjo had to say would change things.

After a relatively uneventful elevator ride (only relatively, because one of his neighbors from the floor above had nearly spilled over his groceries in an attempt to catch it), Luhan made his way to his shared apartment with Changjo, inputting the keycode on the digital lock before entering, calling out to the younger male from the doorway as he took his shoes off. "Ya, imma," he yelled into the apartment, flipping on the lightswitch to the hallway as he progressed further inside. "Did you call for takeout yet? I think I want to try that new sandwich place down the street. They're having a grand opening special, too, so it's cheaper." He made his way into the living room, sliding across hard wood floors in his socks, a smile spreading on his face once he caught sight of his roommate. "I heard my coworker say their bread is really good, but he got the shits the day after, so I don't know. I'm up for an adventure if you are."

✘ log: day one - lunch break (Changjo)

As a fairly good student, Jongin was really trying to understand everything that it was being said but it was hard. Of course he had some knowledge of English but it was hard, especially when the instructor didn't seem to care if they were fluent or not. Looking to his left side, he saw Luhan almost snoring and he held back a laugh before grabbing his phone, setting it to use; it was better to record the whole class and then listen to it later so he could also focus on other stuff. Luckily the man didn't take too long to release them for the first part of the class, indicating where they should go for lunch; needless to say the group stood up fast and happily left the class. Already inside the restaurant, Jongin, with enough food for an army, bumped into one of the classmates as they both headed for the same flag decorated table. "Hello...mate." he tried in his best English. "I'm Jong-- I mean, Jay."

new beginnings ☊ changjo & luhan

(/it was a little hard hearing from changjo that he'd been living in the dance studio at his school for the past few weeks, mostly due to the fact that luhan hadn't known; if he had, he would have done something about it a lot sooner. as it stands, luhan's always preferred living on his own than having a roommate, simply because he prefers everything in his home to be right where he placed it, and didn't like having to worry about how anyone else's preferences, but as soon as the younger male spilled the information, luhan didn't hesitate a second to tell him to move in with him--luhan would just have to adjust to having another living being in his apartment later--and that later was now, as he orders a drink at the cafe where changjo works just before the boy's shift ends. he patiently awaits his drink, as if he doesn't know changjo at all, avoiding eye contact by looking up at the menu or picking up merchandise and coffee bags as if he's interested in buying. once the drink is in his hands, he glances at changjo, just the slightest hint of mischief in his eyes, and takes a sip) Oh, wow. Wow. (/his eyes widen with false wonder, jaw dropped slightly as he feigns an absolutely bewildered look. his voice is so loud that several people nearby tear their gazes from their books to look curiously at the Chinese male) This is, by far, the best coffee I have ever tasted! It tastes like the beans were roasted by Helios himself! Tell me, what is your name, boy? You deserve a raise! (/he looks directly at changjo, not a hint that he's playing around visible on his face save for the playful twinkle in his eye) You are a gift send by god!
