with their comeback only days away, recordings for promotions come in full force right in the beginning of the month. he and hoseok are on the way to a recording of king of masked singer, and woohyun knows their time as a panelist is only going to fuel his want to be on the show as a contestant. he's definitely happy about their appearance, and it's obvious in the way he can't stop fidgeting.

there's music playing softly on the radio up front, and woohyun taps a rhythm on his leg, humming it softly. his feet shift against the floor of the car, one leg crossing over the other, only for him to switch legs after a moment. he can't sit still, excitement bubbling in his form. he knows they're only panelists, and certainly not the only ones that'll be there-- but the experience in itself is something woohyun knows he's going to enjoy.

he lets out a soft sigh then, leaning his head back against the seat rest, staring up at the ceiling. "hoseok-ah," he calls out quietly, as to not disturb the manager in front of the car. "i'm so excited i think i'm getting nervous." he ends with a laugh, shaking his head to himself. it's pretty silly of him to be getting nervous about this with the amount of other things they've done as convex-- but he's so excited.

200428 |  the waiting room feels cramped with thirteen again. jinwook camps out in the corner of the couch and lets the déjà vu simmer for a few minutes, unsure of whether it’s a positive or negative feeling. the noise is a comfort, definitely, keeping the room at a steady buzz and soothing his nerves for the complete group’s first day of promotions. the nostalgia.. not so much, because convex’s debut days marked the culmination of over a year’s worth of the lineup training together, and the past few months of tension haven’t completely measured up, no matter how much jinwook’s opened his heart to the new members. he’s always had trouble letting go, and with every step forward he still feels so fiercely tied to the past.

he relaxes the tight grip on his phone and smooths out his sweater. the pastel fabric for their b-side stage is soft beneath his palm, an easy complement to the ballad, and it grounds him. “is it weird?” jinwook asks, musing aloud to hoseok. he pauses and shakes his head, clarifying. “when you were working on smile flower, did you picture it on stage like this?” he doesn’t gesture but shifts his gaze across the waiting room, indicating the full lineup, and lets a small smile lift his lips. “i missed the noise, honestly, but i need to get used to it again.”

for some reason, taeyong is particularly excited about the use of props -- well, prop, singular, considering the only prop they have to utilize is a lone leather couch exactly at center stage. he hopes someday in the future, they can begin to utilize more props in their choreography. sure, it’s a bit gimmicky, and there are a lot of logistics just to have one couch sitting in the middle of the stage for a portion of the song before it magically disappearing in the flash mob that is convex -- but honestly, taeyong is always up for the dramatics. anything to get a positive reaction out of the fans, right?

they run through two full runs of the dance as practice before they officially have to start recording a serious run-through -- that had been preceded  by multiple rounds of half-energy sequences and technical cleaning. taeyong loves both the song and the choreography this time around, so he’s putting more enthusiasm in his moves. naturally, though, he gets rather exhausted by the end of the two full-length run-throughs -- as anyone honestly would. so, naturally, he wants to collapse into a lump onto the floor.

and what’s better than the floor to flop on in a tired pile? a couch, of course.

making sure to wipe his sweat from his neck and forehead out of common courtesy, taeyong takes the opportunity and plops right onto the couch ( he’ll wipe it down himself with some clorox wipes later, too ). he lets out a grunt that transforms into a deep sigh as he settles further into the cushions. looking to his right, he spots hoseok and turns to his side to face his same-age friend. “hey, where’d you think PD-nim got this couch from? did they really buy a whole new couch just for us to tear it apart over time?”

they're doing a lot better than woohyun could have asked for with this comeback. it feels like starting fresh-- like they're restarting their journey once more and it's going great for the most part. there's wins, more exposure for a lot of the members. it's a hardworking month, it feels like, and woohyun is entirely grateful for it. it feels wonderful, like they're getting back to normal. and he can only hope that this is the path they take on for now.

he doesn't think he can take it again.

woohyun lets out a hum, shifting in his seat as they're on the way back to the dorms. he feels tired, drained and pleased-- under win tucked under their belt for pretty u, and he's ready to rest up and finish off their last bit of promotions. shutting his eyes tiredly, he leans into the body next to him, hoseok, his tired mind supplies. letting out a soft sigh, he tilts his head up slightly so he could peer at their leader. "hoseok-ah," he murmurs quietly, nudging him gently with a sleepy grin. "we're doing so well," he whispers, his voice a hushed sort of excitement. things are looking up, he wants to tack on, but swallows it back, instead widening his grin at the other.
