the door opens to reveal a group of convex members, filing into the room with enough noise to blow out the viewer’s speakers. jinwook grins extra wide at the camera and pretends to be shocked, with a pleased waaaaaah~! getting drowned out among the cheers.

taeyong leads the way, throwing confetti that seems magnetized specifically to jinwook’s hair. well, jinwook imagines it would make a mess to anyone’s hair, but most of the other members are wearing hats to hide their recent salon updates: jaehyun with a cap on, woohyun with his sweatshirt hood pulled up, and sangyeon, seungcheol, and hyun following close behind. it’s a pretty chaotic sight. jinwook can’t wait to check his social media later to find blurry screenshots and theories of each one’s new color.

the last member to enter is sehun, carrying a small rounded cake lit with live candles. it’s quite the entrance. as they all squeeze into the camera shot and sehun sets the cake in front of jinwook’s chair, the cheers settle into something more recognizable: happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! happy birthday dear jinwook, happy birthday to you!

it’s loud and chaotic and warms jinwook’s heart, smile splitting his face open as he sways along. when the song ends he closes his eyes and blows out the candles, and the room fills with more applause.

“thank you!!” jinwook says, almost at a yell. he tries again when the noise dies down. “thank you all, ahhh~ i’m so touched today~”  he holds a hand over his chest in a move that probably seems cheesy and insincere, but his heart really is racing. “even though it’s near the end, my teammates didn’t forget about me!!”

he slings his arms around the two closest members’ shoulders, having to reach up quite a distance to reach hyun’s. when jinwook looks up to joke about it, he’s reminded of another birthday gift. “oh—”

“how did i forget to mention earlier?!” jinwook reaches for his new songwriting notebook, and pulls a folded sheet of paper from the inside cover. “since hyun is here, i want to show consta another gift i received in the morning.” he laughs as hyun begins to protest — don’t show that, it’s embarrassing — and unfolds the paper. inside is a hand-drawn heart. “hyun gave me his heart~”

the room erupts in laughter and cooing and jinwook is floating on the adrenaline, easily surrendering the paper when hyun reaches for it again. it’s time for cake, anyway, and jinwook regains composure when he’s handed ( trusted with ) a large knife.

“first slice for consta,” he declares, holding a carefully sliced piece up to the camera. “today was really special because of you all~” with that the live begins to wrap up, as jinwook continues cutting slices and distributing them to his members, and the staff, too. “thank you so much for celebrating with me. i hope we can have many more v-lives in the future, and many more birthdays together too!”

he's brewing a cup of tea in the kitchen, one of usual routines before bed in the midst of promotions. he has a whole list of soothing throat remedies and preventions that he uses, and a nice cup of tea to soothe his throat for the following day is one of the easier and simplest ones to do. it also feels like a treat after a long day of work, and there's a soft smile on his face as he finishes making it.

he's adding a little bit of honey to the drink when hyun enters the kitchen. he lifts his head up and smiles wide in greeting. "hyun-ah," he greets with a chirp. he stirs in the honey for his tea, lifting his mug up to sip at tentatively. humming against the rim of the cup, he pulls it away to look to hyun again, tilting his head. "how was the recording?" woohyun questions softly. with how packed their schedule was, woohyun hasn't seen the younger much today, as he was scheduled for a running man recording. "anything fun?" he raises his brows at the other in questtion, smile tugging on his mouth.

glancing at his mug, then back to hyun, he hums. "would you like some tea? i can make you a cup."

     ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━        M!COUNTDOWN, ENDING STAGE  .        ━━━

it’s oddly not that difficult to train his eyes to catch the camera.  

at this point, hongjoong knows all too well that de:code won’t be getting their first win with can you feel it.  it doesn’t really hurt his feelings; they managed to come far and place second on a music show and for him, that’s growth.  the ending stages of music shows still hold meaning  -  just because they aren’t in the limelight while the top contenders for the win are announced, doesn’t mean that the cameras aren’t on them.  today, hongjoong’s expression is just for the fans  -  at least, until he hears that convex has had their third win with don’t wanna cry.

his attention immediately turns to the group and he can’t help the smile that radiates from his expression.  hyun looks baffled this time, and hongjoong has to hold a snort back.  at this point, it should be expected  -  convex is rather popular, and don’t wanna cry is an amazing song.  what it must feel like to win.  

as the song begins to play, marking the beginning of convex’s encore, hongjoong makes a move to follow the rest of de:code off the stage.  he isn’t expecting, though, the tug on his arm and he almost trips over his own feet when he looks at hyun incredulously.  hongjoong knows he probably shouldn’t ask him what the hell he’s doing, but being dragged back to the stage is more than a little confusing.

he decides to go with it.

after all, they finally got to a point in both of their careers that they can actually stand on the same stage together  -  even if it’s not as part of the same group.  they can both have a little fun, can’t they? hongjoong doesn’t think there’s any harm in it.

when the note marking the point dance sounds, he falls in line with hyun to dance along to their choreography.  he’s been fascinated by the complicated motions and the way they stay in sync, and he’s even more surprised that he’s actually keeping up with the others in spite of never practicing with them to begin with.  hyun looks surprised  -  probably an act, considering he knows hongjoong’s dancing history.  he sticks his tongue out and bites down on it gently, as if he’s the winner of this little challenge.

part of him wonders if he should stay, but hyun doesn’t let him leave, even when they’re no longer dancing.  he keeps his arm locked tight around hongjoong’s shoulders, and hongjoong just sways in time with hyun’s beat.  this is what they’ve been working towards.  this is how far they’ve come.

it makes his heart swell.

「 FLOWERS IN THE DESERT 」

desert, they were going to the desert-- jaehyun looked out the car window and watched the landscape change from the big city to more and more abandoned and empty. once at the filming location he looked outside then at his own outfit and even if it was early in the morning the sun was out, it would be warm dancing with long sleeves in the desert. jaehyun wrinkled his nose slightly as he exited the car.

jaehyun wanted to avoid rubbing his eyes and ruin the make up-- but it was difficult to do when he was feeling as tired as he felt. he walked aimlessly from the car and to the destination that the filming crew had scouted out for them, the sun was bright even though it was so early in the morning and he was wearing a long-sleeved sweater. one of the staff had given him a small hand-held fan that ran on batteries, he held it tightly in his hand.

looking around with squinted eyes he spotted one of the older members-- hyun, who didn't have a fan like him and jaehyun walked over to him and lifted the fan and turned it on, "aren't you warm hyung?" he asks, while standing out in the direct sunlight not even noticing the staff members flailing behind him looking around for the sunscreen.

meeting the rest of the cast for a script reading and getting his measurements taken are the first few steps he takes. it’s different from his first experience acting. the cameo had been a fleeting experience. an entire day but this will take months and that thought settles on his mind during the wardrobe fittings. his accessories include glasses that he’s far too entertained by, a fact he shares by playing off the show name, grinning to himself when he manages to make at least one of the stylist’s assistants laugh. 

at first, he thought the frames were fake and he swears they are, picking them up with curiosity, asking if he could use his own or if they’d take the lens off for the glare of the camera or if they were anti-glare. he talks endlessly throughout the entire session that it’s a wonder they don’t tire of him or tell him to be quiet. ‘hold still,’ he definitely hears a few times, chuckling with a bow of his head and repetitive apologies, asking what kind of snacks or drinks they like so he can bring some to show his appreciation and sincerity. 

he even boasts of making the absolute best milk tea drinks and talks of the shop he used to work at, asking them to visit til one jokingly asks if he’s sponsored. with a cheeky grin, he tells them that the shop couldn’t afford him even with a discount because of the group he’s in. isn’t convex amazing, he regales of their talents and skills, asks if they’ve worked with hyun on heirs or sehun and taeyong with their photoshoots. if they know wooh— ah, royal hyung from his acting experiences too and insists they keep an eye out for the other members. the fitting goes by quickly the more he speaks and he’s in higher spirits than when he came in, this is really happening.

convex: comeback preparations | rainbow head march 6, 2020

bright. colorful. wild.

those were the first things that came to mind as his hair gradually changed colors. colors. he still can't wrap his head around it.

sehun didn't really have a concrete reaction when he was first informed that he would be having rainbow hair for this comeback. at some point he had been excited - the kind of excitement fueled solely by his own curiosity. he had seen people carry the style so nicely, and he figures it wouldn't be so bad. it's hair. he should be fine. but now that he's here, staring at his reflection in the mirror, scalp itching as they applied a fourth color - a fourth! and he still has another four lined up in front of him! good lord! - he was a little numbed out. it was a lot to take in, quite literally.

at this point, he isn't sure why he thought they were just messing with him when they told him about the color changes. they made him go red before (which took him a while to get used to considering how bright it had been the first week, but he survived). thankfully, it faded over time and he felt comfortable again. this time, however... he heaves out a sigh, trying to get comfortable in his chair as they continue on with the rest of his hair. it looks like the dyes exploded on his head. it looks fascinating, though, if he says so himself, and it looks quite good on him if the light is right. his butt hurts from sitting down for so long but now that he's here, the colors of the rainbow on his head, he quite... likes it?

but will he be able to pull it off? maybe...

the new do has garnered quite a reaction from the members. it is a lot to take in. but he didn't get any negative comments about it. it's more of wonder and it makes him laugh everytime when he's asked if it's real, and he takes it as a good sign. if it looked weird on him he's sure they'd tell him. "is it real... your hair looks like cotton candy." it was jaehyun who asked and he grins. that was a cute comparison. and sehun being sehun, the only thing he replies with is "they painted it with all the colors of the wind," and finger guns.

this is the most daring color he's done yet, and he thinks he's going to have fun with it.

"hyun hyung! can you take a photo of me, please? i'm bad at selfies." he asks because he's got to save this look. for science.
