〈★〉MGAS SEASON 4 - EPISODE EIGHT - HI TOUCH                 ↳ contestant #4049, kim mingyu; meeting fans !

It was almost over... almost. Although, that statement had two totally separate meanings regarding Kim Mingyu. Yes, it was true that to competition was drawing near to an end. However, it also meant that things had been headed in the direction of not turning out the way that they currently were. The nineteen-year-old had a strong urge to quit at one point, but he was so close to making it through. The thought of leaving before he was eliminated made him feel like more of a failure than ranking so low every week; he had no desire to be known as a quitter. Still, this show was beginning to take such a toll on him and he wasn’t exactly sure that he can make it another week before having his second mental breakdown within the time frame of just one year. He’s come a long way since then, that’s for sure. However, he was also extremely aware that there was still much progress to be made yet.

Performing was as fun as ever, though he really felt the pressure tonight. Things were starting to get intense and he really knew that his life was on the line. He had yet to find out whether he was going to be eliminated or not and that caused his stomach to churn, though he did his best to ignore it so that he could fully focus on whatever fans would be here to see him. Honestly, he doubted there would be many, but even just one or two would please him. He was popular in high school because of his position on the basketball team, though he never really felt like any of those people genuinely liked him. He didn’t believe that they knew who he was and all that he could do. This was going to be a different story entirely.

The boy felt rather sad that he wasn’t going to get to spend much time with the two-hundred people that were selected to participate in the hi touch. He wanted to know about them, have the ability to hold hands with them and see their smiles as he’d look into their eyes and cause them to blush; he wished time wasn’t so scarce. They’d only have a brief couple of seconds per person and were instructed to just touch hands and then that would be it. The person would then be required to move on and touch hands were the next person, having to get it done quickly and in a timely manner. This just made him hope that one day, once he was a debuted idol and extremely successful, that he’d have lots of chances like this to spend time with those that support him.

Once it was finally time for it to begin, a bright, toothy grin formed on his face and refused to ever leave (or dull, for that matter) as he was far too excited to have the chance to partake in something like this. A vast majority of his insecurities dissipated as he stood there, watching as person after person touched hands with those contestants before him, eventually making their way to press their palms against his. Some of their incredibly happy and excited faces caused his heart to soar, then it would fall just a little as people here and there skipped by him completely. It wasn’t a big deal, of course. Everyone had their own preferences and opinions; not everyone was a fan of everyone. That was something that he knew, and he tried not to let it get to his head. Any minor disappointment that he’d feel would be erased from his memory the moment another person was standing there, reaching out to touch his hands.

Overall, it was an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience. It made him look forward to his future even more than he already had been. He just hopes that there are happy times awaiting him instead of sad ones. He really needs some positivity and good feedback to lift his spirits after all of the previous weeks on the show.

MGA season 4 ep 8, HI-touch event #4033 - Lee Luda

The hi-touch was a big surprise to Luda and she was instantly both exited and worried. She wished they were allowed to talk to some of the fans and was sad that it wouldn't be possible. She was nervous as she stood in the line of contestants, quite far to the front, and secretly a bit worried that everyone would simply walk past her. Still she gave her best smile, tried to enjoy herself and make those that wanted to see her happy. Worried or not, she was also excited after all.

200 seemed like both a small and a big number to the girl, but seeing so many people lined up made her realise that they did have fans. Of course the audiences during the performances were way bigger than those that could attend the hi-touch, but they always seemed farther away to her. And while she might not have had many fans personally – she wasn't really sure, she'd stopped checking a while ago, in fear of hurtful comments – some contestants sure did and it made her experience feel all the more surreal. It was merely a survival show, but some of them were already so popular.

She smiled happily at everyone who high-fived her and a few times, when the line slowed down, she was lucky to hear the one or other compliment and she thanked them, feeling incredibly grateful. It was an indescribable feeling to experience something like this. The lucky 200 were as good as through when she recognised a familiar face – a friend who managed to come for her. At this point she really had trouble holding her tears back and she wanted to hug her friend – yet she knew better than that, not wanting either of them to get in trouble for holding the line up (even if barely any people were left).

And before she knew it, the event was already over and they had to head back for eliminations. She took a deep breath and followed the staff's instructions with a bad feeling in her gut. It was either her or someone else from her team and she liked neither option.

He was exhausted. The performance in front of such a large crowd had really taken more of his energy than expected even with the small recuperation time he had been afforded where he’d downed a sports drink and devoured a sports he’d scrounged up from somewhere. Bin rarely performed on stage and the last time he’d been exposed to such an event was back in February when he sang at the chocolate convention.

Standing in line he looked out at the crowd that had gathered around the fenced in area that they had performed in, the glowing warmth of pride nestled in his stomach as his lips turned upwards into a graceful smile. He had never imagined that people would have made time to go see them, that this season had captured so many and turned them into fans, but here they were plus the lucky two hundred that had been selected for the high touch event itself.

His team was at the end of the line making him wonder if he’d get anyone or if they’d all veer away before him leaving him alone. It was a sad thought but Bin brushed it aside with a quick shake of his head as the event began, sticking out his hand with a bright smile.

There were more people than he expected that had high fived him, each one thanked earnestly with a polite nod of his head. “Thank you for coming! Thank you for your support!” His voice was bright and cheery with a small hint of aegyo, especially when his fan was a girl. Most of the time they’d just smile or giggle but on occasion he heard them say how cute he was which made him grin even wider. Another pleasant surprise was the appearance of a couple of fanboys who he made extra sure to give attention since they were few and far between.

Eventually the last person passed by him without a second glance, but Bin felt lighthearted: the day was over. They’d leave and go back to the studio to hear what the judges thought of their performances. Perhaps this had been his final act. The prospect of being cut, of being allowed to rest was almost... nice.

Though making it to the final episode... he’d be legendary. At least among his friends.

✧ MGAS SEASON FOUR: 　HYUNJIN’S HI-TOUCH　Σ(･ω･ﾉ)ﾉ！

Throughout the entire event, there isn’t much time to speak. Here and there, the line lags and Hyunjin or the person receiving his high-five can sneak in a short sentence or two; but beyond that, many of the interactions don’t last longer than a short five seconds (or less). Not that he minds. It’s wonderful simply interacting with people and being able to ‘give’ them something in return for their support.

(The fact that people support him never ceases to boggle his mind).

Towards the beginning of the event, a clearly nervous girl stops in front of the dancer during a momentary slow in the line. Much to his surprise, Hyunjin watches as the girl’s fingers clumsily sign out her name, a wide smile slipping onto his lips. It’s obvious that she’s signing more from rehearsed memory than anything else, but the gesture warms his heart nonetheless. To think that someone would take their time to learn a bit of sign language for him makes him unbelievably ecstatic.

“Jieun noona? Is that right?” The girl gives a quick nod of her head and Hyunjin tries to fit in what he can given their short time together, “Your signing is really impressive! Thank you for signing for me Jieun noona”. That’s all the time allows for and he sends her off with a high-five and a thumbs up before moving on to the next person. 

Later, one girl says his name as he raises his hand for the high-five, “Hyunjinnie~” and Hyunjin responds in like with his own, “Noona~” right as their palms meet, laughing. Most of his interactions proceed in a similar manner, and by the time they’re finished, he’s ‘met’ his fair share of hyungs and noonas (with a few oppas thrown in there).

There are others who sign too. Others who greet Hyunjin with shy little fingers that he returns with his best smile and appreciative thank yous. It demonstrates progress towards one of his goals - even if it’s very minute progress, it is undoubtedly progress. In some form or another, there were people who had heard him and had listened. Ultimately, that was what he wanted.

junmyeon would be lying if he said he wasn’t nervous about this. not only was it the semi-finals of the mgas, there was also a fan-meeting event. now, junmyeon was no stranger to getting recognized here and there, but it had been getting worse with him mass following he had developed through this show, and the fangirls made him a little nervous. he was very shy when it came to women, he had nearly died when he had asked dahye out, and now a whole bunch of those fangirls would be coming up to do high fives with him. it was quite nerve-wrecking to say the least.

he lined up with the other contestants, glancing down at the hoard of two hundred fans that were waiting to come up on stage to meet them. he could feel himself blushing already. at least one of those fans would be there for him, he wasn’t stupid or ignorant to his own fan base. he swallows, trying to prepare himself before he puts a smile on and waves at them all, hearing a couple screams come from the crowd. he turns away, covering his mouth as he laughs rather shyly. he composes himself to get ready again and waits as the contestants line up on the stage, and the fans start to file in. 

he’s surprised when a couple of them go straight for him, but he really shouldn’t be at this point. shyly, he touches palms with them, as well as the other fans that come down the line and choose to participate with him. a lot of them get shy around him, but little do they know he’s just as shy as they are. he could never argue that he was plain looking ever again after this, there was just no way. 

once it’s over, he goes to hide behind one of his teammates, taehyung, burying his face into his shoulder from behind, trying to calm down from that flustering experience. he needed to get used to this though, if he wanted to be an idol.

“ everyone line up, you have two minutes!”

jei knows that she’s dragging her feet, but she really doesn’t want to do this.  after performing tell me, she wants her job to be over - and that’s what this has become, really.  this isn’t even a competition anymore.  there’s nothing that’s keeping her going, there’s next to nothing that’s keeping her heart in this.  if it wasn’t for the fact that she knew most of her group, then she wonders if she would even be here at all.

maybe she would have done the very thing unlike kim jinhee and dropped it all.  but this is still not over yet, and as much as she’s grown to hate it, deep inside rooted in her core is still the softened girl child that she no longer wanted to be.  so even though she doesn’t want to do this, she does it anyway.  maybe it’s out of pride, maybe it’s just out of obligation at this point, she really doesn’t know.  all she knows is that she just wants to give up, and she can’t.

being forced to meet with the fans is a little overwhelming, if she thinks of it.

after all, it’s not like jei hasn’t read what they’ve said.  picking on the fact that she’s not funny, being unable to read between the lines, the criticisms, the loathing.  she wonders if they’d tell that to her face.  she wonders if they’d be just as brave if they weren’t hiding behind a computer screen.  the answer? probably not.  but it still has the power to make her feel like shit when thousands of people start to like a single comment about how she shouldn’t be around her friends just because she isn’t funny.

and these are the very same people who will come on the stage today and smile in her face, like they think it hasn’t hurt her to read.  it’s typical, really; like she doesn’t already have enough to worry about and they’re still trying to dig into her skin.  but she’ll do it, anyway.  she stands up there anyway, next to people she’s gotten to know throughout her time on the show and it’s really - .. tiring.  the sun beats down and makes her squint her eyes, and yet she’s still expected to smile, to be happy, to let these people touch her when all they do is act like snakes.

still though, there’s a little hope.  that someone will surprise her - that someone she’ll want to see will come back and touch her hand, just once.  she’d even break the rules for them.  if it was sungwoon, if it was hyuna, she wouldn’t care if she was kicked off for it.

at least she wouldn’t feel as alone as she does now, staring out into a crowd of people that don’t really have faces.

so it begins.  she keeps her hands up and a thin smile on her lips, tilting her head as people touch her hands - some look excited, oddly.  though jei supposes that comes with the territory, maybe she too, managed to charm some.  there are others who don’t, and just look at her before moving onto the person beside her - that’s fine, too.  there are even some that completely pass her by and don’t look at her like she’s nothing better than whatever they have on the bottom of their shoe.  it’s a slap in the face when she’s already been kicked like a dog, but still, she smiles.  still, she pretends.

because there’s still the hope, as more people line up and come up the stage.  one by one, they touch her; one by one, she realizes she doesn’t recognize their faces.

no hyuna.

no sungwoon.

she can’t say that she’s surprised, but it still hurts.

MGA Episode 8: Hi Touch Event

the week had been rough on sungyeol, but he was excited to see  all the fans. he saw the line up of people waiting for the hi touch, and he was pretty excited to see everyone. of course, when he took his spot, he posed for a few pictures and he settled down. He was eager to meet all the fans. The first few people passed him by, and he knew that he was less popular than some of the others. Like Junmyeon or even Jonghyun. The first fan who stopped by him, he looked up with a smile happily. “You disgust me.” he was told. 

Sungyeol blinked in shock. That wasn’t the first anti fan. No not at all. Thsi was just the first of many. He sat, there calmly, trying to keep his calmness. He was trying to be totally relaxed but it wasn’t working. 

“You should be at home.”

“Get a steady job. You daughter would be outraged that her father is being a disgraceful idol.” 

he did have a steady job. he drew for a living. but with each angry outburst, he found his mood dropping even more and more. with every negative word, he just wanted to vanish. but one fan managed to perk him up. “You’re doing good. Your daughter should be proud.” he was told. That was enough to perk him up. That was excatly what he neded

 Sicheng wasn’t all that sure of how he felt about the concept of a ‘hi touch.’ 

 He thought that perhaps it was the intersection of his latent germophobia and social anxiety that made it stretch upwards into such a frightening prospect, but the event was a source of anxiety for him from the very moment he was informed of its happening. 

 Eventually the day of finds it’s way to being, and they’re given various instructions on how to behave, told not to engage in conversation, not to link hands with their fans, to stand and smile and nod, and then they’re lined up by group. 

 In all honesty, Sicheng doesn’t really expect anyone to show up for him. 

 He doesn’t feel particularly visible on the show, nor appreciated for his efforts, and he’s acutely aware of the fact that many of the other remaining contestants seem to be more popular. 

 It’s not a nice feeling, admittedly, and although he likes to pretend it doesn’t get to him at all, he can’t help but wince when he thinks too much about it, as though it is a real physical sting.

 When the event begins, he notices that many seem more excited to see even others, and he’s hurt by it, initially, until he starts to pick up more that that isn’t entirely the case. 

 There are people who are excited to see him, who squeal as they high five him, who find it difficult to meet his eyes, who quickly mutter about how much they like his traditional dance, or how they find his voice surprisingly nice, and by the time all two-hundred people have made their way past, although he certainly wasn’t the most popular contestant if that group was a good measure, he wasn’t nothing, and it feels good to know.
