she was making a bit of progress, at least. it wasn’t much, but simply showing up at the nova building these last few days was a start. she would have to get used to the idea of yoo jiae not being a part of her future at nova eventually, despite just how impossible that felt in the present. persevering felt impossible, though she knew that she’d have to adapt—but in no way was it going to be easy. still, this wasn’t a bad place to start.
dawon entered the practice room, surprised to see one of the trainees standing atop a chair, examining god knows what on the ceiling. whether or not it was the right call, she had every intention to ignore the boy—that is, until he started to fall. instinct took over as she made her way to his side, attempting to catch him. she doesn’t stop the fall, but she does hope that she managed to at least break it. “you, uh... wow, are you okay?”
things have been gone missing from his front yard for the pass couple of days. gangnam is usually an okay but he still didn’t understand how his fruit have all gone missing. to be honest siyoung didn’t really cared about the apple tree that his brother had plant. it was a hassle to take care of but at the same time it was amazing to have sweet apple to eat early in the moring. however, lately his apple have all gone missing. although he kept it low key siyoung was planning on capturing the criminal.
waiting for his brother to leave for work the young male rush out of the house and into the front yard with a box of supplies. some would call him crazy but he would call it an experiment. “this has to work.” he told himself. grabbing the net he laid it out on the floor, attaching a string it he stretching it out all the way to the sidewalk. before getting the chance to pull it back into his front yard he notice a stranger walking towards his direction. without any hesitation he screams out to the other male. “wait! stop!” he sticks his hand out making a stop sign. “do not come any closer. apple theft!”
rkship | Wendy Son x Kang Seulgi ( @seulgirk ) [AU or Future???]
When Wendy first moved to SOPA as the new transfer student from Canada who enrolled in the middle of the school year, she never dreamed that the girl sitting next to her would be one of the people she can’t live without.
Ever since Kang Seulgi introduced herself in somewhat broken English, they had been inseparable. They have evolved from know-it-all new girl and the sweet dancer who was a saint to put up with her to being all but married. Wendy’s mother had become protective of Seulgi almost as if she was her own daughter, while Seulgi’s parents and older brother have considered Wendy as one of their own.
Despite deciding to take different paths after high school, with Wendy opting to take the scholarship offer from Yonsei and Seulgi had chosen to study at a school where she could hone her dancing skills, they were determined to make their relationship work. Wow, one would think they were an actual couple instead of best friends. By some twist of fate, they both ended up getting contracts from Nova Entertainment and Sphere Entertainment, respectively. If Wendy’s being honest, she never considered becoming a singer until she attended SOPA, while this has been Seulgi’s life-long dream. This meant even less time to see each other, until the merger of the Top Five companies. Even then, they still have different schedules, so they still need to exert effort to see each other.
As Wendy watches Seulgi deny her feelings for a certain Park Chorong, she finds herself amused and curious to see how that relationship turns out. After all, Wendy herself claims she has no time for love. Perhaps a small part of her is just bitter that Chanshik left and that nothing is going to come out of her small crush on Toshi. She can’t compete with the tall, pretty, doll-like Shannon who Toshi’s engaged to by the way.
She finds herself ranting to Seulgi about how “I rarely put my heart in someone else’s hands, but all I get is heartache. I think I’m meant to be a nun.” To which Seulgi always replies with “Nonsense. I’m sure you’ll find the right person who will make you very happy, and me very jealous.” Wendy chuckles as she leans into Seulgi’s embrace, which makes Wendy feel like she’s protected from everything.
It’s always been this way, both of them seeking some sort of solace in each other, one way or another. Despite living separate lives and having a separate group of friends, in the end, they’ll always return to each other.
As always, Wendy blames Johnny for messing with her head. This time, the topic is on love. It’s a rather long discussion, keeping both of them all up all night. She still questions his motives for the conversation, probably to get her to stop being angry with his best friend... But that conversation forced her to step back and re-evaluate her relationships.
In her life, there’s only one person who fits the descriptions both Johnny and her mother gave. No... She couldn’t possibly... Wendy’s never considered it until destiny was done with letting her figure it out and just decided to shove it in her face.
They had just finished having dinner with the rest of the girls, catching up on life until Joy and Yeri kicked the rest of them out of their place. Rose unni had to go somewhere else, so Wendy and Seulgi were left to themselves. They had agreed to get ice cream (even though their trainers will make them regret it the next day) at the nearby stall.
As they walk back to Wendy’s place, she suddenly gets conscious about Seulgi’s arm brushing against hers, and for some reason, she shifts closer.
“Has you-know-who confessed yet?” Wendy teases as she licks her ice cream cone. This is one of her favorite topics to tease her best friend about, after all, it was a funny love story in the making.
Seulgi chuckles. “No. Not when she’s too busy flirting with everyone else.”
Wendy frowns at the slight bitterness in Seulgi’s voice. If Park Chorong couldn’t see what was practically in front of her, then she clearly didn’t deserve Seulgi. Her best friend deserves better. “We only truly have each other.”
It was supposed to be a joke, but for some reason, Wendy’s heart is fluttering but at the same time feels safer than it’s ever felt with either Toshi or Chanshik. She dismisses these thoughts as she swipes the keycard to the penthouse. Oh, right. Her mother’s out on another trip. They have the house to themselves.
They settle on the couch, clearly too lazy to move to the room just yet. Wendy picks up the nearest book on the coffee table, just to ignore how Seulgi’s head on her shoulder both makes her heart race and feel like there’s no other place she’d rather be.
“... Wendy?”
She turns to Seulgi, eyes sparkling under the bright lights of her house. It’s far from being the most romantic setting or the most flattering place to be, but to Wendy, Seulgi is perfect.
She has no idea know who leans in first, but the moment their lips meet, something clicks in Wendy’s mind.
“I might have a crush on someone…”
“Who is it, Teddy? Tell me!”
“Wendy, I think you already know.”
If Wendy goes by Johnny’s discussion of love, there’s a difference between true love and feeling in love. True love is an ACTION one knowingly takes on by including others and is spiritual nurturing directed toward both herself and the person she loves. One knows it’s true love when you can stand by that person’s side and say “I love you” even at their most despicable, when they’re most difficult to love. It’s a choice one makes every day rather than a feeling.
Her mother adds that real love isn’t just about the person who makes you blush, or the person who excites you. Love isn’t supposed to be terrifying. If anything, love is supposed to make her feel safe. Love is the anchor that keeps her steady in these tumultuous waters. If Wendy puts these two together, it’s a choice that she won’t regret.
When they finally part, Seulgi stares at Wendy like she had never seen her before. Suddenly, Wendy understands why Seulgi’s always been different from all her other friends.
“Seulgi...” Wendy says, trying to make sense of the situation.
Seulgi shakes her head band puts a finger to Wendy’s still somewhat sensitive lips. "What took us so long?” Clearly, it wasn’t only about the kiss.
Wendy shrugs. “I... I guess we were focused on looking for something, that we had no idea we already had it.” With a small smile, Wendy continues, “Besides, I never thought someone like you would want me.”
She leans on Seulgi’s shoulder this time. She’s got no idea where this is going, but she knows always going to choose Seulgi. Maybe everyone else knew before they did: their parents, their friends, and maybe even their jokes were already an indication of their real feelings.
“In the end, Seulgi, it'll be us and only us...”
[ MUN NOTE: Loosely inspired by the song “Only Us” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen. ]
this was it, the moment she had been working towards.
after the meetings with each of her siblings and getting their approval, along with getting toshi’s support, she was finally ready to confront her mother and end all of this nonsense once and for all. she was about to get a grip on her own life, to free herself from the restraints and restrictions her mother had set in place for her every waking moment of her youth. opportunity after opportunity had been spoiled for her, but now she was finally able to salvage something she had worked hard to gain. her mother wouldn’t dig her claws into shiah’s modelling career, no way.
she walked into the penthouse while squeezing toshi’s hand (he had been kind enough to come along with her for support in this), moving towards the living room where she knew her mother would be waiting for her. she had called in advance to let her know she had to come over and talk to her about something important. she would be ready and waiting, shiah knew.
at first her mother greeted her and her now-boyfriend with a warm and inviting smile, gesturing them inside, happy to see them holding hands. shiah knew her mother was probably thinking they were announcing a date for their wedding or wanted to discuss details about living circumstances. something domestic and concerning the engagement moving forward was probably what her mother expected, and the thought that shiah was about to prove her mother wrong in that was a little spiteful in how it made her gleeful, but she was filled with glee over it nonetheless.
she gestured for toshi to sit. as long as he was there with her for this, that was all she needed from him, he didn’t need to say anything on her behalf. it was her battle. him being there on her side would just let her mother know she had his support and agreement in this too, which was all the help she needed from him. she turned to her mother, expression solid and strong, eyes hard and almost cold as she fixed her gaze on the elder woman.
“i’m calling off the engagement.”
he mother stared, blinked a bit, then laughed as if it were a joke. when shiah’s expression didn’t change, her mother blanched, panic clear in her visage. then her cheeks turned red with rage, her neck lighting up like a hot poker. her voice was booming with pure disgust and anger, “you will do no such thing.”
shiah was unmoving, unaffected by her mother’s demeanor, and held her ground. “i most certainly will, and you can’t stop me. toshi has agreed, all of my siblings have agreed. you know father will agree too. there’s nothing you can do about it.”
her mother nearly collapsed as her knees gave out and she fell back onto the sofa behind her, shaken and trembling with panic and fear, the realization of her failure with shiah starting to sink in. “this can’t be happening... no... everything was going so well... it was according to the plan... you were the one, shiah, you were going to make us great again. now you’re ruining us.”
that one hurt, but it wasn’t unexpected. her mother had been using her to try and fix her own failure this whole time. she had no regard for shiah’s well being or wants, it was a selfish patch up job she was trying to accomplish. it hurt her, knowing her mother never really cared about what she wanted to do with her own life. she just wanted to use shiah to better her own reputation.
“i’m not ruining anything. i’m doing what i want with my own life instead of patching up the damage from your divorce. the only person who doesn’t want me to chase my dreams and be successful is you, my own damn mother. you just wanted me to make you look better. you have myeongcha for that, you don’t need me. so i’m calling this off, and doing what i want with my own life. which means i’m going to keep modelling, i’m going to keep dancing, i’m going to go to school even, and i’m going to date toshi instead of being engaged right off the bat. i’m going to do what makes me happy. that’s why i went with father - no, dad. that’s why i went with him and not you, because he’s wanted nothing but for me to be happy doing what i want to do. he loves me for me. you don’t, and that’s your true failure.”
with that, she felt she had said all she needed to say. she strode over to where toshi sat, holding all the tears in that she wanted to spill like the champion she was, took his hand, and headed straight for the door. it was over now. she was free.
it had been a battle with her nerves trying to make herself go to this brunch and sit down with him. she had called him up the day prior to arrange the meal out, and she had done her best to sound casual about it, as if it was just a ‘date’. it was much more than that though, and she knew that full well. he didn’t know what was coming though, and she had to do her best to explain before he freaked out about everything being flipped upside down on him.
with the confirmation from all her siblings (more or less) she was ready to go to her mother and confront her about her intentions, to call everything off. however it occurred to shiah that it wouldn’t exactly be fair to him to just call it quits without at least warning him and getting his input on it. she hadn’t realized it until now but her biggest fear in all of this was losing him. over the past months of being engaged to him she had grown fond and appreciative of what he had done for her as a person, unwittingly or otherwise.
she had finally managed to force herself into the restaurant, her stomach dropping upon spying him at one of the tables. she took a breath, trying compose herself and put on her usual confident nature as she strode over, dropped her bag and sat across from him. she took a moment to look at him, not saying anything, simply taking him in, a soft, genuine smile forming over her lips. “hey...” god, she didn’t want to do this, she just wanted to talk to him, be with him, even just hold his hand and look at him. this felt impossible.
“i... called you here for a reason, i have some important stuff to talk about and it’s killing me so... can i ask that you just listen while i explain things? and when i’m done i’ll let you know and you can have free reign. you haven’t done anything wrong, this is a me thing.” she could only bite her lip in worry after spilling that, swallowing and trying not to die from the nerves consuming her like a black hole in her chest.
Once upon a time, Shannon had despised this man. Toshi, Toshiro, Hyuk... She had really hated him. He had completely disapproved of her friendship with his sister from the start because he saw right through, saw her for what she was. To say that him seeing through her so easily bothered her was such an understatement, because he only saw the bad, he only saw through to one layer of her, and for that she had been condemned. She understood him wanting to protect his sister, but Shannon was not someone Soyeon needed to be protected from.
But she understood, and that softened her, because she wished she had someone to care for her like. It was her greatest wish, but she was too afraid to tell anyone such a deep, emotional thing. Her betrothal to this man at first had seemed like the worst possible thing that could happen, but now it was showing a silver lining. Perhaps he could give her what she always wanted: feeling loved. She would have to win him over first, and her pride was a hard thing to overcome. This gesture though... it could be a start.
His grandparents were incredibly pleased to see her and had let her in immediately. She offered them warm smiles and an affectionate handshake before heading off to Toshi’s room, knocking softly on the door. “May I come in?”
The drink was in Seungjun’s hand, smiling at the girl who was in front of him, and flirting, far too forwardly. Something that left the twenty-three year old covering his face with a slight embarrassment and bobbing his head. It was hard to hear her through the music, harder to understand what she was talking about when she used names he didn’t know and kept reaching out to touch his arm. It was rare that someone could make him so utterly uncomfortable, but she was and his friends had left him to suffer. Meeting girls in clubs was not particularly Seungjun’s thing; he tended to be more romantically inclined, with a taste of hands brushed in cafes and eyes meeting in a bus, and accidentally bumping into one another in book stores.
It was by chance that his eyes met the other males, or maybe it was because he was a head over everyone else; much like Seungjun was. A soft laugh exhaled as his eyes flickered back to the girl and he bowed his head forward, apologising, saying he saw a friend. His drink abandoned behind him, stepping slowly away from the girl and turning to head for the other male. “Hey, can you help me?” Seungjun asked, fingers pressed to his lower lip and glancing over at the girl who was watching them with far too much interest. Even if he knew this was embarrassing, he couldn’t help but laugh. “She’s being.. very.. forward,” he tries to explain, without sounding like he was being mean. He didn’t want to do that.
