joohyun doesn’t really consider herself a gamer. sure, she plays video games sometimes when she feels overwhelmingly stressed (only to get even more stressed when she loses), but she’s never really been into them enough that she’d call herself as such, more a casual player than anything else.
which is why being at the game x tournament feels like an entirely different world. she’d known about all the hype and time and effort that goes into putting together tournaments like this, but it’s a different thing entirely to be there among the crowd, watching as eager players cheer on their favorite players and teams with such raucous vivacity that it almost makes her feel like she’s at a sports event full of overzealous fans, and even though she’d gone in a group with mason and the rest of the guys, she still feels out of place, lost in a world of wonder and awe, having never even played any of the games being featured.
she separates from the others for a bit, needing to use the restroom and, honestly, needing a break from the crowd and the noise. on her way back, though, she becomes distracted by one of the monitors, drawing her in, feet moving of their own accord. her hands find an empty controller, and she’s so overtaken with the graphics on the screen, it takes her a few moments to realize she recognizes the player next to her. “oh, minki!” she says with surprise, as if he’d sneaked up on her from behind. she smiles sheepishly as she waves her controller around. “do you know how to play this game? i usually only play games on pc...”
