Did you hear of the Rayman news?
I sure did. And... I'm a bit...Meh? On one hand, it's finally a 3d Game. With Rayman. That *seems* to have a bit of a story to it. Which is huge, we haven't had a proper story in an official Rayman game (not that we had many these past years...) in a long while. On the other... Well. I'm not a fan of the models? I'm not talking about the fact Rayman's eyes are separated (idk why this is a problem. I mean, sure, I don't draw him like that but who gives a fuck?) AND I'm not saying it isn't a good attempt. Rayman himself is fine (Him puppy. I do like the freckles too) Globox is actually one of those I do think renders the best...And Polokus's redesign is frankly interesting! But... If you ask me to choose between this.
And this?
I won't hesitate a single second and choose Sparks of hope every time. The guys for this game had understood the assignment (and oooh look! He has two separate eyes! And nobody gave a fuck at the time! So can we stop giving a fuck about that now?) Back to Retold, honestly, it's kinda obvious that the people who were in charge of his current design were more used to realistic characters than cartoony ones. Best sign of it is Betilla.
Ma'am, you're not Betilla, you're one of these tacky fairy statues grandmas tend to own... And that's not my biggest grievance with this design. My biggest problem is that she doesn't look like she's part of the world she's dwelling in. Honestly, it's a good thing that in game, she looks like this.
So yeah, I'm not a fan. But that's only design wise. What about the game itself? Well...It's a 3d remake. Yeah they're clearly going to make new segments, and, again, attempt to put an actual story in it but... A remake? Really? You couldn't whip up something new? You had a team of people who worked on the rabbids games who did a phenomenal job. They clearly had tons of ideas. Where are these people? Oh right! Davide Soliani , the director who worked on Mario+Rabbids went away, with his actual team to make his own studio. (All the best to you sir. You're also the second director who went away from Ubisoft and made his own studio. Ubisoft really isn't a fun place to be nowadays uh?) *sigh* Look. I don't mean to be a grump. But I'm not sold on this. Visually wise, it's got highs and lows, that I can live with. But the fact it's a remake? It feels catch grabby. I don't care for catch grabby. I probably won't play this one.
