MUUIDO

Just south of Incheon floats an island that is around 3 miles long and 3 miles wide, known for both its golden, sun-kissed beaches and its plentiful shellfish. Being only a shortl ferry trip away, it's the perfect place for a summer getaway, or better yet:

Gumi's first annual summer camping trip.

BACKGROUND

The university has done excursions of this type for so long that it's practically tradition; the purpose naturally being to promote camaraderie among the legacies and—with the beginning of the fall semester coming up real fast—allow their students to create some memorable experiences as August draws to an end.

Every year it's always been somewhere different, but it's this time around that they have decided to allow the initiates—just freshly scouted from orientation way back in early June—to tag along for the ride.

LOGISTICS

While Muuido may be a seafarer's paradise, Gumi students will be residing in small cabins further inland near Horyonggoksan Mountain. Standing 807ft (246m) tall and densely covered in towering, deep green pine trees, it offers a beautiful hiking course with a sea view as one climbs.  Temperatures for this week will be in the low 80°F (~26°C) range, with relatively clear skies and calm winds, though there may be a chance of scattered showers near the end of this week. Local specialties include fresh shellfish such as clams but of course, among the supplies students and staff have lugged along with them, there are other other options available. Please make sure your rations last as long as possible, but in the case of emergencies, there is a small shack that is a two-mile walk away if anyone has forgotten any bare-bone necessities.

EXPECTATIONS

Welcome to PART ONE of Real Monster's opening event! Students will be split into groups of five (5) or more randomly—together, for the duration of the trip, they will be staying in a modest cabin. The list is below, take this as a chance to interact with those who may not necessarily be from your legacy! Rapid-fire, ice-breaker threads are the key here. We will be updating this with a little surprise very shortly. Oh—first cabin to get a thread up gets to earn some easy points for their legacies! NOTE: It doesn’t have to be a group thread, simply a 1v1 (or 3 members etc etc) with your fellow cabin mate works as well!

‘WAKE UP’ is all it takes for cody to jolt up from his slumber. he’s always been a light sleeper anyway – which now makes him wonder… who the fuck managed to cuff his ankle!!!!!

he pulls at the chain connecting to the metal cuff… it’s not going to budge – not with ease anyway. he’s not going to be able to remove it himself. curious eyes follow the chain along, brows wrinkling in distaste when he realises he’s attached to someone else. “oh no, is this what a real relationship is like,” grabbing the girl’s attention – half in jest and the rest is bitter. “you can heal, right? heal us out of this situation please, thank you, appreciate your kindness.”

the grudging expression donned on his cabin-mate’s face tells cody she’s not in the mood. but he isn’t either. he stands up and sighs, tugs on the chain by moving his leg. “get up, or i’ll have to drag you through the sand at 200 miles an hour. i think you’d like to keep your body intact?”

Adrenaline rush long subsided, simmer down after. Dawn breaks with the sunrise, and for the rest of the day, it's a chance to breathe. Taking a dip in the sea, exploring the rest of the island, catching up on the hours of sleep missed from the race earlier that morning. The day is yours to spend as you like until it's that time between high noon and sunset, and the boats (or air mattresses) need to be taken to the water. 

"You're telling me we dragged these freaking tents over only to just leave them here?" Yes? 

(It's not another race, if that's what you were wondering.)

"Can you please paddle faster?"  "Why don't you give it a go with a pool noodle then." 

So where to? 

BACKGROUND

After traveling a mile over water, they’re here at last. 

With a sweeping rocky sea cliff to the north, a lush mangrove near the shore, fine white sand, and nothing but clear blue water all around for seemingly miles on end, it makes this place a perfect getaway. 

The owner of the island—formerly an Alpha himself—had thought the same. It'd been bought in the first place to develop it into a camping resort, only for such plans to be abandoned. Now, all that remains from the endeavor are the luxurious wooden beach cabins that overlook the beach. 

So take it easy, Monsters. Sit back. Relax.

BEACH BONFIRE 

The sun dips well below the horizon and a kindling fire begins to burn by the beach. The trees sway with the light sea breeze, as does everything else. There’s no better way to end a long day than a seaside rendezvous, beer in hand, beach towels over their swimsuits.

It kicks off with a little show for starters: per school tradition, it’s a chance for first years and others to show off their powers at the bonfire. Be it to assert dominance, impress the one you’ve been making eyes with for the past half hour, it’s all in good, (mostly) harmless fun. 

After that? Well, the night’s still young, baby. Make it yours. 

EXPECTATIONS

Welcome to PART TWO of Real Monster’s opening camping event! We’re going to cut some slack for our students here and let them have some fun. The expectations are that everyone lodges in their respective cabin groups from Muuido, but given that this bonfire is meant to last all night, that might not be a problem.

The general schedule is as follows: 

4:00–5:00PM Store boats, paddles, etc. on the southernmost side of the island. 

5:00–6:00PM Settle down into the cabins and preparations for the bonfire

7:00PM– Bonfire on the beach

4:30AM, MUUIDO ISLAND.

Though most of the students of Gumi has retired to their cabins, a figure approaches the clearing, ashen coals crunching beneath her feet, painted lips drawn in distaste at the red plastic cups scattered about. Loudspeaker in hand, it doesn’t take long for her to speak into it, nor did she hesitate to light up filling the windows of each and every cabin with a blinding light.

An inhale.

“WAKE UP—DID YOU HONESTLY THINK WE INVITED YOU HERE FOR WATER AND SUN?”

Instructions that followed were point blank. Easy.

Find what you need and head to the beach, three miles from here.

Your legacy is not your crutch. Keep your cabin mates close.

                              WATCH OUT FOR SABOTAGE.

Welcome to PART 1.5 of our summer event! You will find that after a night of partying and socializing between legacies, our lovely Osprey vice chair Jiyeon has decided fuck that and now you guys are going to suffer a little. So, here we are! Under the night sky and the beautiful lunar eclipse, the Osprey members have organized a little race for everyone.

The route is as follows:

CABIN GROUNDS → TINY STEEP HILL → SMALL THICK GROVE OF TREES → ROCKY BEACH → SHACK → SANDY BEACH WITH TIKKI TORCH FINISH LINE

The first three cabins that come in first will get a special prize and points!

Objectives so far are clear (and this we expect you to write into the thread!):

You MUST gather your camping equipment/whatever other necessities needed with them. Doesn’t matter if you’ve sobered up or not, you’re hauling ass.

It’s pitch dark out there, so watch out for ANYTHING that might bite. Or crawl. Or fly straight into your faces who knows.

The ONLY clear path to the sandy beach that’s available has a giant line of hurdles (which you must jump over with camping equipment in HAND). There also may or may not be some booby traps if you try to evade them. Pick your poison.

Though not necessary, we DO recommend running with a partner (may NOT be from your legacy. Note that the more of your cabin members that make it to the finish line the better).

Please feel free to make this harder than necessary if need be, if you want to drop your kid into a ditch, do so! If you want to have some sabotage for other members, plot it out! 

Threads are recommended in script or rapid fire (all are acceptable, of course). 

TAG all threads with #rme: camp01 so we can keep track! (If you forget to tag it, we won’t count it!)

You have until August 6th 2018, 11:59PM to submit a link to a thread detailing your muses’ struggling their way through the course. We’ll be determining the winners based on the number of people per cabin who have sent them in.
