My NCS experience
For three weeks of my summer I took part in a program with the National Citizens Service (NCS). This consisted of two residentials and doing thirty hours of a social action project. My overall experience was amazing. The first week was at Carlton Lodge in Thirsk. If I had to pick between the two weeks, the first week was definitely the best. It was full of activities so we did 4-5 activities per day. The majority of the activities were really fun. I managed to get over my fear of heights because I managed to do the zip wire and leap of faith on the high ropes. During the week we had to camp for two nights then slept in dorms for two nights. My favourite activity of the week was archery. The second week was at Bradley wood scout camp in Brighouse. It wasn't as good as the first week but it was still pretty good. We got to experience different things like having campfires and cooking for ourselves even though all my group got to make was sandwiches. We had to camp all week which wasn't too fun, especially because of the weather. We also had talks about life skills and opportunities open to us in the future. Over those two weeks I got to know 100 really nice people. The leaders were really nice too so we got to know the leaders on a more personal level. For my social action project me and fourth one other people helped out a religious conference called Rocknations at Bradford Life Church. It was a really good experience because we got to take part in the activities for free during the conference as well as help set up. It was a good experience because it was something I'd never experienced before and it was really good to be able to experience it. The band, I am future, were amazing even though they were singing about god and Jesus. It was enjoyable because it was more like rock music rather than gospel music. I got to see three of the conferences during the four days. I saw the pastor Phil Dooley twice. I thought he was amazing because even though he was talking about the bible he made it funny by telling anecdotes and it was really inspiring. Even though there were some things I didn't enjoy, the whole experience was amazing. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who is considering it because its worth doing.
