For Izzy Doodledump’s WileE and Roadrunner contest
So the wonderful IzzyDoodleDump created these pictures and then challenged people to write a story about one of the pictures. I took the one with all four: http://izzydoodledump.tumblr.com/post/125807656067
And I have this as part of a much bigger universe in my head. I may write more or I may not.
“So, how’s that NOS engine working for you?” Willa Coyote asked as she stretched in preparation for their traditional run back to the school. Her twin, Wily, was sitting on the ground, legs spread as he leaned forward to scribble some formula or another on a small pad he kept in his brown hoodie.
Run rolled his eyes and shook his head, blue hair flopping in his eyes. “I think you or your wonder twin got the formula too strong,” he stated, pulling his heel up to his hip. “Nearly took the hood off before I could turn it off.”
“Is that the excuse you had for bringing that beauty home at a limp?” teased Roa, her own blue ponytail sliding over her shoulders as she reached for her toes. Her twin’s response was rude, rather vulgar, and sent her into fits of laughter.
Wily snorted and shoved his notebook back into his hoodie. “Just because you are unable to understand the delicate balance of chemicals…”
Grinning, Willa listened to Wily babble on about chemical balances, proper alignments, and new carbon strands while letting her own thoughts wander. Although the Coyote and Roadrunner families were generally rivals due to their similar businesses, the two sets of twins were only rivals on the race track. Most of the Coyote family expected Wily to be the next head of the family corporation, but Wily prefered playing with chemicals and explosives (accidental explosions were his favorite). Willa enjoyed getting grease under her nails by building or even rebuilding cars and motorcycles for some of the local racers, and while she could rival her brother in the sciences, she didn’t enjoy it quite as much. All of her little chemical experiments were aimed towards making better engines, less expensive synthetic oils, and perhaps even an engine using a totally new fuel system.
“Still can’t believe Enrique Gonzales beat you in your meet,” Willa stated, glancing at her brother once he wound down, and nodded to the bronze medal around his neck. “I thought for sure you had him until he suddenly hit that last dozen feet.”
Roa laughed. “Rumor has it, little ‘Speedy’ Gonzales has two older sisters who often chase him with ribbons and dresses, wanting to turn him into their personal doll,” she announced, straightening up as the gold medal gleamed around her neck. “He learned to run out of self preservation.”
“If you didn’t get lost in Loony Tunes University’s science labs, you might have heard that little rumor, Wily,” Run stated before standing up and folding his arms across his chest. “So, we gonna run or gab all day?”
Twins they might have been, but Roa and Run (nicknames they’ve had for so long that they’ve nearly forgotten their real names if their parents didn’t shout those names whenever the Blue Duo got in trouble) were never mistaken for anything other than individuals. They were both speed demons and adrenaline junkies, but Run was much more impatient than Roa, unable to keep still for very long. Roa actually was more of a parkour runner, enjoying the idea that the others were chasing her and she always just slipped through their fingers with one of her outrageous stunts.
Rolling his eyes, Wily climbed to his feet. “Very well, Geococcyx, but might I remind you of the terms of our bet?”
“Of course, Canis latrans,” drawled Run with a huge smirk on his face. “Last one back to the University parking lot has to buy dinner for all of us.” “And the winner chooses the restaurant,” added Wily as the four of them lined up at the seam in the sidewalk that was their unofficial starting line. It must have been strange to see, two siblings with blue hair, blue track clothes, and bright orange shoes while the other set were all in brown from the windblown hair to their shoes. Wily smirked at Run. “I do hope you brought your wallet.”
“Still so confident?” Run countered. “I seem to be wearing a slightly different color medal than you.”
Just then, the campus bell rang out, signalling the changing of the hour, and all four of them seemed to blur slightly as they raced down the tree lined path towards the parking lot. The boys easily outdistanced the girls, but they were conserving their energy for the final push.
“Just so you know, I’m planning on getting your brother out on a date with me,” Roa said with a bright grin to Willa.
“That’s all right. I plan on dragging your brother out on a date myself even if I have to tie his ankles together,” Willa replied, giggling as they ran.
Roa hummed before smirking at Willa. “Shall we show the boys how to truly run?”
Willa’s answering smile was all teeth. “Lets.”
With that, the two girls put on a burst of speed that left their brothers in the dust.
