There was some upheaval at work while Roan was in China, and she learned she had a new boss. Whom she now knows everything about. And who gave her a free promotion in the middle of her vacay.
It’s questionable, but the strangers don’t stay strangers long and with enough drinks Roan is having a blast anyway. Even if the dancers have mullets. And pointy ears. And aren’t firemen.
After work, Robin drops by and asked to be buzzed in just in time for dinner. He stays the night and in the morning makes sure she’ll be thinking about him all day.
Robin: Have fun at your bachelorette party tonight. Be careful walking home.
Roan: Yes, Dad. I’m sure it won’t be that exciting. Probably just me having a couple of drinks and sexting you.
It’s a great night and a great next morning.
He said yes.
No one else shows up for the swimwear party. No one. Roan doesn’t know what they were celebrating anyway, but decides to make it a night to remember.
Robin lives in a surprisingly traditional Victorian on the lake. He’d invited Roan to a party and she arrived early to help out by making some food.
Robin: What do you think? Not too shabby? Just needs a woman’s touch?
Roan: It’s very nice, and a great location, just not what I expected.
She barely gets a batch of cookies made and gives Betta a change and a bottle between his affectionate attentions.
Roan had gotten another promotion, but the big plans after work had her nervous. She was finally going to meet someone very important in Robin’s life, his daughter. He’d recently gotten full custody when her mother was deployed to Syria.
Robin: I know we talked about this, but a child is a big responsibility. I understand if it’s a deal breaker.
Roan: I still don’t see it as any different than my mom raising Viola. There was never any half-this or step-that. We’re sisters to the core. The real question is whether you trust me with her.
Robin: I wouldn’t have let you meet her if I didn’t.
Roan: I don’t blame you for having reservations, but I can do this. It has to be easier than wire taps and ballistics, right?
Robin: Right. I think.... I think I’m ready to take the next step if you are.
