Australia’s three principal Phantom’s:
Anthony Warlow (1990-91, 2007-09)
Rob Guest (1991-98)
Josh Piterman (2022-23)
have y’all seen this
Some of my favorite Ponr photos! Definitely my favorite scene in the show to be photographed. The color scheme and lighting makes a lot of these pictures so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.
Credit to @operafantomet for these wonderful photos! Found them all under her Ponr tag.
“Epilogue,” 1st Australian Tour, 1989. Rob Guest as Jean Valjean, Debbie Byrne as Fantine, Marina Prior as Cosette, Peter Cousens as Marius, Silvie Paladino as Éponine.
The recording quality is a little spotty, but this is still a beautiful performance.
Rob’s Valjean has all the gentleness, tenderness and gravitas we could hope for Valjean to have in his last moments. And of course it’s always especially poignant to hear a death scene performed by an actor who has since passed away in real life – RIP.
Debbie’s Fantine is much the same as on the CSR: a voice that might not suit all tastes in the role, but still one that conveys deep feeling and motherly warmth. Marina’s Cosette and Peter’s Marius both sound lovely and appropriately urgent. Silvie’s Éponine is unfortunately drowned out by Debbie’s Fantine, but whether this was the case in person or is just a fluke of the recording I don’t know.
The final chorus is stirring just as it should be.
(aka best PoNR cover ever)
Christine Daaé (onstage): He’ll always be there singing songs in my head.. He’ll always be there singing songs in my head. Me: *Begins imagining a misty candlelight Sinatra stage and in the midst of it stands the Phantom, all of this is inside Christine’s head* The Phantom: I’m going to take things down a little bit with one of my personal favorites.. *turns to offstage band* HIT IT!
Because I adore @operafantomet and her Tumblr and therefore am always on it for her Phantom knowledge, I saw that she was looking for a Mia Van den Eykel photo (aren't we all!) So, here is the only photo of her I could ever find, which I bet most of you have seen already.
