Shout out to @rjdaae for always being able and willing to patiently defend Christine as the hero of the story and explain why Raoul is a good man. Your posts give me life.
Christine Daaé (onstage): He’ll always be there singing songs in my head.. He’ll always be there singing songs in my head. Me: *Begins imagining a misty candlelight Sinatra stage and in the midst of it stands the Phantom, all of this is inside Christine’s head* The Phantom: I’m going to take things down a little bit with one of my personal favorites.. *turns to offstage band* HIT IT!
I would reply to the Raoul hate post going around but I don’t want it on my dash. I will say that I am somewhat concerned by people who consider Erik to be a cinnamon roll and direct hatred at Raoul. Raoul is a kind, caring, and devoted young man, if somewhat immature and impulsive at the beginning of the novel. He selflessly loves Christine and is willing to sacrifice himself and abandon his former life to ensure her safety and happiness. Erik on the other hand is a selfish, violent, and murderous criminal who puts his own wants and needs above Christine’s until the very end when Christine’s kindness and compassion disarm him. I can only hope that the people who put Erik up on a pedestal don’t actually seek out anyone like him in reality. Try to find a Raoul instead. We would all be so lucky to have someone like him in our lives.
It's worth mentioning- I found the original of that photo the blog was claiming was of Erik. It is, as I suspected, a photo of a victim of a mustard gas attack during WWI, and the original photo is plain black and white. It's a pretty disturbing image, but I've edited my response to the post to add it under a cut.
Thanks for finding the source of this photo. It’s sad to me that phans have tried to pass off this kind of phanwank as actual research, but this is frequently the case, unfortunately. I remember these photos from the old POTO.com site, and I figured they were bunk, but I didn’t know where they were actually from.
So was that blog like a Parody or something??
I don’t think the site is a parody. There have always been phans, especially on the old POTO.com site, who’ve tried to prove that Erik was “real,” and not a figment of Gaston Leroux’s imagination. These folks sometimes create elaborate “evidence” to convince themselves and others that Erik actually existed. I remember seeing the sources from this website on the old POTO.com site, so it is most likely part of that aspect of the Phandom.
Wait, what's this about the Majestic making a blog to discourage protesters?
I frankly have my doubts that it was the Majestic Theatre that made this blog or the blog post in question... :/
THE DUGGINS
May we all someday figure out what the heck a 'duggins' even is.
