Fox Finds New Reality Chief in Rob Wade

It’s a show that, although I had nothing to do with creating it, it’s close to my heart. It’s a very, very good talent show. There’s still a lot of fan love for that show. It actually does incredibly well in the L7s with a lot of pickup. It really grows, and the other thing about that is that it still gets a lot of Emmys. It’s definitely a jewel in the crown. So, again, we haven’t made a decision about that, but it’s a legacy franchise, and it’s proven that it’s a very resilient returning show.

A Letter to Rob Wade

So as you all know, I took a bit of a longer break than I normally do after last season. A lot of the reasons why I did will be outlined in this letter.

Dear Rob Wade,

During Conrad Green’s last few years as the show’s executive producer, I thought the show had reached it’s lowest point. We had the awful All Star season, twitter votes for extra points started, we got the WTF cha-cha challenge and we started moving away from the ballroom premise of the show. His time ended with the atrocious 18th season. At that time, I was relieved because I couldn’t imagine that the show would get any worse. I thought that whoever got their hands on it next, would end up bringing it back up, regardless of how hard they tried to do so.

Then we were introduced to you Rob Wade. And boy, was I sadly mistaken. You happened to take a show that was already going down and managed to send it further, much faster than Conrad was ever able to do. “Hidden” agendas have become incredibly transparent. Partnerships have not been as great as they once were, the theme nights have gotten out of control, a lot of random WTF cha cha-esque challenges have been thrown at everyone and it’s obvious that neither the pros nor the celebs are all that jazzed about all of the extra crap that has been thrown at them recently. The judges’ table has become a complete joke. We have gotten so far from what this show used to be, that it’s getting harder and harder for me to identify a certain dance that a couple is supposed to be doing. That has not happened to me since season 3 or 4 of this show, when I finally got the styles down. It is not because I don’t know what is going on anymore and I somehow lost all of that knowledge. It is because of music choices and theme nights, things that you have done. A lot of these things influence how the choreographer creates a dance. And since a lot of emphasis has been put on the themes (to the point where they are judged if the dance actually fits the theme), the choreographers have no choice but to make these strange dances. The quality of dances have gone down in the past few seasons. Has anyone else noticed this? Because the celebs are trying so hard to connect to a specific character and theme/emotion, they lose a lot of the technique and the actual character of the dance that they are supposed to be performing.

And one other thing that has increased tenfold since Green’s departure, is the drama. Now I’m all for drama. I watch reality TV for the drama. However, I don’t watch reality competition shows for drama. I watch them for the competition factor. The fact that two very serious illnesses were used for views last season, still disgusts me. Both Tamar and Kim could have died last season. And yet production treated it like some sort of sideshow. Pitting the married couple against one another every single week was unnecessary. And Alexa’s elimination was so stupid. Not because she got eliminated, but because you threw Carlos in jeopardy with her for no reason but to up the drama. Giving Nastia the b*tch edit and replaying that one 5 second clip for two weeks straight was frustrating. That awful val and janel showmace was tiring. And the preseason stuff that has gone on for the past few seasons has been sickening. None of this stuff was necessary. It just made it harder for me to swallow the show.

Now to address for those of you that are going to ask me “why don’t you stop watching the show if you hate it so much?”; save it. I’m a critical viewer. No TV show is perfect, but when a show is making this many mistakes, I’m going to speak out. I love Dancing with the Stars and I want it to stay on the air for as long as possible. But they are constantly alienating their most loyal viewers (46 and up I believe is the demo that consistently tunes in) and that is who has kept this show on the air for almost 11 years. It has not been key demographic of viewers that everyone is gunning for. That demo is fickle and will leave for something else that is more appealing in an instant (I am a part of this key demo, so don’t think I’m bashing y’all when it’s the truth).

So please Rob Wade, could you lay off of this coming season a bit? We don’t need the extra theatrics to make DWTS a successful show that stays on the air for another 10 years. All you need is a good cast and great pairings. The rest will just fall into place without that much interference from those behind the scenes. Could you do that for me please? I’d truly appreciate that.

Wob Rade

Something really confused me. Rob Wade the main producer and basically the guy in charge of the American version of DWTS said that judging table gets crowded with 4 judges...repeat comments, takes up time, just not worth it. and that’s why season 21 they were not going to do guest judges. He then said Len would be back for season 22. So unless they drop one of the other three it’ll be back to four...a format he has admitted is a nightmare, Does this make sense to anyone?

I wonder what do they mean by these home town visits of celebs and dancer? Do they actually going to their home towns? 😀 all in all... I like the fact that they keeping something to surprises for not only celebs but pros as well... I think that would be interesting... sad that disney night is probably gone tho... WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON CHANGES?
