i was going to post screenshots but i needed the whole scene. i feel ill. can you guys please write essays about the inthemiddle family dynamic with me.
#like. ok wait. we know that lois was physically and mentally abused by her parents growing up (alcoholic dad shoving her in closets#her mom in general#etc)#and she resented those teenage girls not only because they were cruel to her son but because they reminded her of the childhood she was#robbed from.#and getting back at the girls was (in a way) getting back at her mom for raising her to be horribly insecure.#which is why its soooo crazy when she acknowledges “i am you”. bc so much of this show is the family refusing to take responsibility for#their actions#lois cant even directly bring herself to say “you are me” but thats the obvious implication. acknowledging that the worst parts of reese#came from her. which is HUGE bc she literally kicked francis out at 15 due to her inability to acknowledge this.#speaking of which. the parallels to the 'i wasnt a good enough mother to you' scene with francis. well tag limit isnt long enough for me to#talk about that.#but i WILL say. the way reese responds to “ive been a terrible mother” with “its okay ive known that for a long time” .... it isnt evenn#FUNNY. like its not delivered sarcastically or humorously. its just stated as fact. yes you are terrible. its okay. i know this.
