Robeisy Ramirez (14-2) is a two time Olympic gold medalist. The Cuban boxer was a stable member of one of the deepest Cuban amateur teams the sport has ever seen. He defected to the US to go pro and after an early set back, seemed on his way to being a P4P player in the sport. He won the WBO featherweight title and was being angled towards a possible fight with Naoya Inoue. Then he ran into Rafael Espinoza (25-0, 21 KOs).
Rafael Espinoza is a Mexican boxer who cut his teeth fighting in Mexico for a decade. Espinoza is one of hundreds of unheralded Mexican fighters that were waiting for their opportunity to get a shot at a world title. He was not a guy on basically anyone's radar outside of Mexico. But in 2023, he got the call against Robeisy. And he made the most of it. On a broken ankle, he went out there and put it on the Olympian en route to a decision win that made him a world champion.
Now almost a year later, Ramirez and Espinoza are set to have a rematch for the title. The two will face off this Saturday (Dec. 7) on the undercard for Emanuel Navarrete vs Oscar Valdez 2.

Despite being a big power threat, Rafael Espinoza (24-0, 20 KOs) was not a particularly highly thought of fighter heading into his fight with 2x Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez. He's a large featherweight, coming in at 6'1 with lots of power but lacked any real names on the resume to make people think he was a championship level fighter. He then proceeded to put Robeisy in hell, battering the Cuban in one of the best fights of 2024. Now he is the WBO featherweight champion.
Espinoza will face off with Sergio Sanchez (22-1, 13 KOs) this Friday (June 21) for the title on ESPN+.
