its a vveerry interesting thing that happens. conservatives will constantly point to each other as “the ideal wo/man” but want nothing to do each other. (even outside of romance/sex. you never hear liberal types complaining that politics keeps them from making friends. but you do hear this from conservatives.) con men want a woman whos ‘free’ that they can ‘break’ in body and spirit. id call it some form of a conquering fetish. while con women will say that women should be subservient to men/their husbands, but when push comes to shove they want an equal partnership and support just like anyone else does. id go even farther and say that the existence of a con woman politician/activist/grifter/w,e is a paradox. they preach that women should be submissive, seen and not heard, but if they truly saw themselves as lesser than men then they wouldnt be holding these public positions/positions of power. we wouldnt be hearing from them. but everyone wants a voice, even if theyre using that voice to support the leopards eating peoples faces party.
and VERY VERY interesting to pull this into lyana/robert dynamic. at one point ned tells robert that he saw lyanas beauty but not the spirit underneath. but if were coming at it from this angle then you could make an argument that robert did see lyanas spirit and thats what drew him to her over her beauty. he saw a woman whos wild and free and he wanted to ‘break’ her down until shes barefoot and pregnant with a toddler on one hip at 17. robert wanted to be the one to ‘tame’ the wolf bitch.
you could even pull this into cersei and roberts marriage. on paper this marriage should work, theyre both abusive alcoholic sexists, that should be a match made in heaven! but robert does not want a meek housewife, despite his frequent attempts to put cersei ‘in her place’. and cersei does not want to BE a meek housewife. she despises meek housewives… she despises women. she thinks women are stupid, useless and weak. but she does not think that of herself, shes the One exception. the Only Good Woman. and she refused to let robert ‘break’ her. i do have to give her props for never letting robert impregnate her, that she never let him ‘own’ her in that way. great move by our lioness. cersei was never as ‘wild’ as lyana was (allowed to be), but she also refused to bow to her husband. a think that combination could be part of the reason that marriage went so badly. not wild enough to tame and not tame enough to submit.
