As some of you may recall, I like the history of Norman Italy. This book tells the story of Robert Guiscard who was one of the first members of Hauteville family, who came to Italy. Since the link I posted some years ago doesn't work anymore I decided to post a new one.

Robert Guiscard was a Norman adventurer who settled in Apulia, in southern Italy, about 1047 and became duke of Apulia (1059). He eventually extended Norman rule over Naples, Calabria, and Sicily and laid the foundations of the kingdom of Sicily.
Lombard warrior princess Sikelgaita of Salerno was the female half of a medieval power couple that roiled the Mediterranean world for decades in the eleventh century. She fought at the head of armies, terrified the Byzantine Empire, and personally led charges that turned the tide of battles.

As you may recall I’m “a bit” crazy about Norman Hauteville family and this is mainly due to extraordinary reigns of Roger I and Roger II (not to mention Stupor Mundi). Anyway here is a new pic, a painting depicting Robert Guiscard and his wife Sikelgaita. She in certainly an interesting figure by her own right. She used to follow her husband to battlefields and Anna Komnena for example called her a new Pallas Athena and Amazon.

What can we say about dreams apart from noting how important they are? Every now and then I find myself having a lot of strange dreams, either they give me closure about stuff I have been struggling with or I just end up dreaming something stupid like being forced to go back to college or secondary school because of some technicality. Charlotte’s Dream will explore that world of dreams.

Normans began the conquest of Sicily in 1061 when Robert Guiscard and Roger I invaded island. In this painting the brothers are receiving the keys of Palermo from saracens. The capture of the city took place in 1072.
