Trope Tuesday - B for Bodyswap

Too Close for Comfort

The million-pound question: did you shoot Robert Sugden? Robert wakes up from his coma on the 21st October 2015, only he's not in hospital. He's in HMP Hotten and he looks like Aaron Livesy.

We have a winner! Trope Tuesday it is, so this week is B for Bodyswap.

This trope is sadly under explored in the Emmerdale cinematic universe however we are lucky enough to have this recent little gem. Set during the Who Shot Robert storyline this fic is a fascinating exploration of Robert grappling with his feelings for Aaron, his mortality and whether or not he believes that Aaron could have been the one to shoot him.

It's twisted and gory and wonderful, a lovely midweek treat for you all!

Mega Monday

Robert parks the car outside the Woolpack and takes a final look at himself in the rearview mirror. He looks good, if he’s allowed to say so himself; hair softly quiffed to frame his face, the grey button up complimenting the burgundy suit perfectly. Robert looks himself in the eyes and feels his jaw tighten slightly before it relaxes and a confident grin takes its place. It’s just one day. He can handle his family for one day. For Victoria’s sake. or, Four Weddings and a Funeral AU

The librarian has a secret to share, she is a bit of a sucker for a romcom au, so this was always going to be a hit. This one in particular, though, has been subject to more than one reread. It's lots of fun, but there are also a few moments that will really hit you where it hurts. This librarian was particularly moved by the way that Aaron is described through Robert's eyes, with so much love. The conflict is carefully crafted, so perfectly in character and resolved in such a satisfying way that you will be kicking your little feet throughout.

This is also a great one for the village because features plenty ancillary characters, such as John, Jack and even, wonderfully, Katie. Really the village is a character in and of itself, which this librarian loves.

High on his thigh, where his legs drag together as he digs his toes into the sheets, is the sting of stubble burn. His boxers catch on it as he stretches, hip digging into the mattress, and the bite spreads like molasses, warmth creeping up his veins.

A gorgeous little affair era treat for your Sunday. Beautifully written and just overflowing with Robert’s bone deep, self destructive yearning.

WIP Wednesday

roadkill fawn, you said "how sad, left to rot alone like that"

In November, during a thunderstorm that meant daddy had to come in from work early and Victoria was in bed so Robert was cuddled between his mummy and daddy with hot chocolates watching Scooby-Doo, there was a knock at the front door. That was how John arrived. OR a reimagining of canon if john had been present in the sugden's lives since childhood. he is not well-adjusted

Sticking with this weeks theme of breaking the mould, this is certainly not your average Robron fic. The first chapter explores Robert's childhood if he had grown up with the looming, smothering, terrifying presence of John around. It's dark and twisted and wonderfully frightening in places, after you read it you will find yourself looking over your shoulder, making sure John isn't standing behind you with his first aid kit.

A content warning is necessary for those who are a little squeamish, but the darker themes are handled very well, with care and intention. This librarian will be eagerly awaiting the next update.
