R.I.P. Robert Zildjian. ♥
2 LEGENDS HAVE PASSED ON
The music world lost 2 of the greatest contributors to music of the last 50 years, over this past week.
Robert "RZ" Zildjian, founder of the Sabian Cymbal Company, passed away on March 27, after a long battle with cancer. He was 89. Originally part of the famous Avedis Zildjian Company, which his father started in 1928, Robert had an unresolved dispute with his brother, Armand, over control of the company, which caused Robert to leave and start Sabian in 1981. Since the company's launch, Sabian has garnered loyal users and fans including Neil Peart of Rush, Phil Collins, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Terry Bozio, who played with both Frank Zappa & Jeff Beck. The music community is also mourning the loss of uber-producer, Phil Ramone, who passed away, at the age of 72, this past Saturday, after being hospitalized for an aortic aneurysm. A 14 time Grammy winner, Phil has worked with an array of artists including Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles and Paul McCartney. However, Phil is best known for his 10-year collaboration with Billy Joel, working on all of Mr. Joel's albums from 1977's "The Stranger" through 1986's "The Bridge." Phil also produced three of Paul Simon's solo records, and the Simon and Garfunkel Reunion Concert in Central Park, in 1981. Over the course of the past 20 years, Phil produced the series of "Duets" albums.
