Es cofundadora de Sierra On-Line, más tarde conocida como #SierraEntertainment, junto a Ken Williams. Es conocida principalmente por su trabajo pionero en las aventuras gráficas, donde algunos de los títulos más destacados son #MysteryHouse, la saga #KingsQuest y #Phantasmagoria.​ Es considerada una de las figuras fundamentales en la historia de los #videojuegos. En 1980 Ken Williams, su pareja, creó un motor gráfico para la computadora Apple II, a partir del cual juntos crearon la primera aventura gráfica de la historia: Mystery House, un éxito instantáneo. La primera aventura que Roberta diseñó después de Mystery House fue The Wizard and the Princess (1980), el primer juego de aventuras con gráficos en color, convirtiéndose en el juego número uno para el Apple II. Roberta y Ken fundaron la empresa On-Line Systems (1980), que luego se convirtió en Sierra On-Line (1982), y con ella fueron una de las fuerzas dominantes en la industria de los video juegos. This week from the Museum collection, an item that's been especially sought after by Sierra fans in recent years - the King's Quest VI Lord of the Dead lithograph, a numbered edition of 450 signed by King's Quest creator Roberta Williams and Sierra artist John Shroades. The original price of the print in late 1992 was $300, which was advertised as a special discounted price from a "value" of $500, with the frame valued at $200. One year later in late 1993, the price was reduced to $99.95. Including the frame, the piece measures 33.5"x27". It is believed that toward the end of the run, the prints were sold without the frame. To celebrate this numbered lithograph, you can now register your print by visiting our Lord of the Dead registry. Original Sierra merchandise is a valuable part of preserving Sierra's history. It only makes sense to debut the Sierra Museum with Sierra's co-founder, and the storyteller who started it all, Roberta Williams. Seen here in the early 80s in this rare photograph from Sierra's offices, Roberta is pictured demonstrating Sierra's collaboration with Jim Henson, an adaptation of The Dark Crystal, which was Sierra's final Hi-Res Adventure before the company gave birth to the graphic adventure genre with King's Quest, the original groundbreaking 3-D animated adventure game.
