reading reccs for accessible queer theory
i've found reading theory to be one of the most empowering things i can do for myself-- for me, reading the queer experience articulated so clearly has been incredibly healing. i'm very much an amateur scholar and as such understand that judith butler, although they serve, is pretty near impossible to understand (i also know this is intentional on their part, but still).
here are my recommendations, one hobby-theorist to another, for texts dealing with queer/ gender theory that are relatively easy to understand:
Testo Junkie - Paul B. Preciado
Queering Black Atlantic Religions - Roberto Strongman
Queer Theory Without Antinormativity - Robyn Wiegman and Elizabeth A. Wilson (just the introduction is incredibly powerful and eye-opening, the whole text is amazing though)
This intro to queer temporality by Sara Jaffe
Gender Nihilism - Alyson Escalante
My Words to Victor Frankenstein above the Village of Chamonix: Performing Transgender Rage - Susan Stryker
Understanding Patriarchy - Bell Hooks
