This is one of those instances where Masaaki Suzuki’s recording is far preferable to John Eliot Gardiner’s
I should probably listen to JEG's for the comparison, but I can well believe it. Hard to see how Suzuki's recording could be bettered.
Plus there's the minor name-dropping opportunity of being able to point out that I was once in the same choir as Robin Blaze. He was in my school choir, and to this day is probably still the best treble I've ever heard (certainly of those I've heard in person). Our choir sang at Magdalen College, Oxford on one of our summer choir tours, Mr Blaze got poached by their chapel choir, and the rest is history...
