i have once again been thinking about the moment in wyrdwood season 2 where robin snaps at lug. because i think it is so interesting for robin as a character, but for different reasons than andy intended.

i know andy was really playing the angle of “the lines between morven and robin are starting to blur” and that is interesting, but it’s also just such a good illustration of how even the kindest hearts can crack under pressure. because that’s the general consensus about robin. everybody knows happen’s “and robin is kind” quote. but robin was able to maintain that kindness partially because he hadn’t ever faced any existential threats toward himself. yes, he lost his job and his home, but from robin’s perspective those were not malicious events. you can tell from how he speaks about it in s1 that he doesn’t harbor any ill will about those things nor towards the people that caused them. but now he is facing those threats. he has seen more fighting in the last couple of months than he has in his entire life. and he has to adjust quickly or the wyrdwood will swallow him whole and spit out his bones. and it just really speaks to the part of me that looks at myself pre- and post-covid and feels like i lost a part of myself that i haven’t been able to get back. and the fact that robin was able to come back to camp afterwards and apologize to lug really speaks to me that despite everything, he is desperately still trying to hold onto that side of himself.

I'm happy Morven got her partial revenge, violent, cruel, and emotional and both hollow and cathartic. I think she deserves every second of it, her rage and joy.

I'm worried for Robin, who didn't want violence and torture to be done with his body and had asked his friends to reign Morven in. I think he deserves his confusion and anger.

I'm excited for them in Season 3, which I need, like, right now. Give it to me.

actually thinking about the theme of lack of bodily autonomy in Wyrdwood. Cressida's body is being taken away from her by magic. Lug's body was offered up to a god as a sacrifice against his will. Morven lives in a body that's not her own. Robin lives in a body that's not his own. Even Happen has surrendered himself to Cadence and won't even take medicine
