Womanhouse, Dining Room, 1972 Womanhouse was an immersive art installation, exhibition and performance space organized by Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro, co-founders of the CalArts Feminist Art Program. When the newly formed program found itself without an adequate space in 1971, its students and teachers decided to relocate to a dilapidated mansion in Hollywood to critically explore the relationship between gender, housing and domesticity. The students renovated the house to build the Womanhouse installation, which had over 10,000 visitors.
