Today I awoke to a sea of yellow and orange leaves scattered on my front porch (still hoping to see some red and purple soon!). The ornamental bushes outside my office window haven't surrendered their green yet, and watching their leaves cling so tight to their branches against the chilly #autumn wind puts me in mind of one of my favorite Celtic fairytales, #TamLin, and how a mortal girl clung to her #elfin knight as he transformed from salamanders, snakes, and scalding cinders, to rescue him from a curse so they could be together. •

• A few years back I saw an adaptation of this very fairytale by #RobinMuller called #TheNightwood, complete with stunning #artwork, and couldn't wait to have it for my collection. I just love beautifully illustrated books with lyrical prose! So naturally, when I started working on my latest #yalit #retelling, I couldn't pass up the chance to buy a #picturebook version of the #GoblinMarket as well, and even decided to write it into my WIP (my MC has the very same book, which her mother used to read to her at bedtime). •

• I don't think I'll ever outgrow the way picture books make me feel when I lose myself in the pages ... #nostalgic and #cozy, like I’m wrapped in a favorite childhood memory. Today in @deluxshne’s IG story, she mentioned that her son's favourite story was "The Paper Bag Princess" by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Michael Martchenko. I never want to say this was the book that made me a feminist (cause I think my mom and dad did a pretty good job there) but this was the book that gave me a heroine quite like me. She was tough, tried to fix things and walked away when she recognized the relationship was toxic for her (I may need some refreshers) I heard that Robert Munsch wrote this for his daughter Elizabeth, does anyone know if that is fact or fiction??🤔 . . Swipe Left - "Tatterhood" by Robin Muller was my sister's favourite. She loved the story of beauty and sisterly loyalty. It is always the jealous bond between sisters but Tatterhood, the sisters loved and accepted each other as they were. They did not try to change each other but saw who they really were. I also think it helped that the elder sister was the one who had all the answers - lol though I debate that in real life 😜 . . I want to read these books again and probably going to go home and find my copies.
