another epic conclusion drawn from that episode was that aaron and robert are literally incapable of staying out of each other’s life’s? and it’s not an unhealthy wild thing either. it’s literally just them not being able to be exes who are either 1) awkward around each other 2) bitter af or 3) painfully platonic. they want to try the third one, because it means that they are still close somehow and it all leads back to how INTENSE their relationship was. the have this bond which they both know isnt able to be broken, they literally can’t just ‘cold turkey’ each other??? that’s what robert didn’t want aaron leaving early last year, that’s why aaron didn’t want robert leaving last month. it would be too painful, too raw and devastating for them both because guess what? they love each other too much. however you want to try and spin it.
the scene yesterday was so flipping instense too when they agreed that some day they’d be friends. but not just casual friends, robert is out there promising to be the best friend aaron’s ever had because they are just like that!!! and aaron was so scared about robert refusing when he started tripping over his words and asking 'can we -’ and not being able to get his words out.
because for aaron, it was just inconceivable for them not to still be aware of each other’s highs and lows throughout life? this is a man who has loved robert so passionately, so unconditionally for years and years and he’s telling him that he’s finally letting him go and he literally says NO. despite doing the same five months ago. and so, he’s broken, he’s devastated by how awful it sounds and he pushes for them to be friends.
but not what they have been recently, PROPER ONES without liv eyeing them up and saying robert is round to often. he wants them, one day, to be able to sit down and have a pint and talk like they used to, laugh and smile like they used to.
and robert is so committed to that too, because he knows despite how much it’ll hurt, it will make aaron happy.
so they’ll be friends one day, 'good friends’, because they can never be simply nothing to each other anymore, they have to be in each other’s life’s somehow and if they can’t be together than god robert will make sure he’s the best friend aaron’s ever had and aaron will readily accept that, knowing it’s the biggest thing he can ever ask for now.
