ROCKETMAN ASKS
2: Favorite quote? This is so hard!!! Potentially ‘For my next trick I’m going to fucking kill myself.’ but if lyrics count??? ‘The change is gonna do me good’ because there’s a lot of changes happening in my life at the moment and I connect to it. Honky cat is life. Anyways this is hard next question
4: Which performance made you the happiest? Honky Cat!! But then also Crocodile Rock because I love Taron’s rendition of it.
18 for the rocketman asks 🤭
18: Are there any songs that you like more than the original?
I Hate that you asked me this....I like most songs just as much as the original except for Bennie and the jets, I like taron’s movie version more because it’s so Wild and sexy
Are you still doing the rocketman asks! 👀 5 &7? 💞💞
ROCKETMAN ASKS<333
Listen, I will always be doing Rocketman asks. If I ever stop doing Rocketman asks, please send help because something is seriously wrong with me.
5. Which performance made you the saddest?
OKAY. So I have thoughts on this, and I’m gonna break it down. So, the “performance” that really ruined me was when Elton went to visit his dad and had the heartbreaking realization that his father is being the “perfect” dad to his new sons. The dad Elton never got to experience. The dad he was robbed of because his dad was painfully emotionally distant and just walked off without even saying goodbye. This bit just hits me so hard because of my own emotionally distant father who was also extremely manipulative and emotionally abusive. I won’t delve much farther into that, but the realization Elton had of “wow, I will never experience that with my dad” I felt that.
Now, as far as actual performance. The Rocketman sequence is probably what hurts me the most for so many reasons. The attempted suicide is clearly his lowest point and what really tugs at the heart strings. But what REALLY gets me about the Rocketman bit is just before he goes out on stage. When even though he’s JUST tried to kill himself, he’s being dressed up like a doll, propped up in his uniform, injected with god knows what, and then that smile. That fucking smile he put on as he grabs the bat, just after the wince of pain from that needle in his shoulder. He’s gotta just forget about his pain. Forget that he would rather be fucking dead. Forget all the shit in his life and just smile and go out and play. GOD. I could go on for hours but I think you get the point.
7. Did you listen to Elton John before?
This one wont be as long and complicated as the last. But sort of. Obviously I knew of Elton’s music from the Lion King, but I’m pretty sure everyone does so it doesn’t count. So, the first ever Elton John song I knew was Crocodile Rock (an absolute banger). I remember being a small child, hearing this on one of my grandparent’s cds and jamming to it. They would always tell me about how it was one of my Aunt’s favorite songs and she’d always dance to it just like me. The only other Elton connection I had was once one of my dance recitals had a raffle and I happened to win one of the baskets (a crazy concept that I actually won something). So it was this fun summery basket filled with all these toys and beach themes things. And one of the things was a GIANT pair of sunglasses. I’m talking huge. Thick yellow frame with blue lenses. They were fucking ridiculous. And I will never forget the first time I put them on, my grandmother looked at me and said I looked like Elton John. And I didn’t know who he was at all, but I was so happy to look like him.
3, 7, 14 & 18 - for the Rocketman asks! (:
thank you so much for sending an ask love!!! :)
3: what outfit would you wear from the movie for a week?
maybe the troubadour outfit? i really like the overalls with the star shirt and the glasses that go with it, and i love everything about the scene so i think i would like wearing something that makes me really happy like that, you know? a close second was the tiny dancer outfit, which was decided against because i would really only want to wear the jacket for a week.
7: did you listen to elton john before?
not in the same way that i listen to him now, but yes i did, at least a little bit. i have loved tiny dancer and your song since i was six years old and after gnomeo and juliet came out when i was seven or eight (cringey, i know), i wouldn’t stop playing the music from there, especially don’t go breaking my heart. so yeah, kind of but not always on purpose.
14: which scene/performance is underrated?
this one i had to think about a little bit. i think one scene that’s underrated is right after border song, where elton plays a few songs that he and bernie wrote together and dick shoots them down. i think it’s cool that it shows even a legend like elton john was rejected in the beginning. another scene is the one where he gets the elvis record and his mom tells him that he will be bald as an egg by the time he’s 20. it’s so important to show that his mother was always shooting him down, killing his excitement, even before he was old enough to really notice.
18: are there any songs that you like more than the original?
the only song that i like taron’s version more than the original is take me to the pilot. i’m not entirely sure why, i listen to every other original rather than the soundtrack version if i have the choice, but for me, take me to the pilot sounds just a little bit better with taron’s voice. i still definitely think that elton did a fantastic job though!!!
once again, thanks so much for the ask!!! :)
Rocketman Asks
4 and 16 from the rocketman asks?
4. Which performance made you the happiest?
Definitely crocodile rock. I think it’s because it (in the movie) it was the first time we see Elton properly preform. There’s an innocence and joy to it all. I love everyone (especially Doug’s) faces when Elton starts singing. Everyone seems really intrigued and excited. And the floating with the la’s in the background never fails to make me smile. And then of course when everyone joins in and Bernie and Ray just start going crazy, it’s amazing!
(Your song was a very close second place because of how sweet and intimate it is but ultimately, a room full of people going batshit over a guy wearing star overalls brings a bigger smile to my face ahh)
16. Overrated character?
This is so difficult. There are so many underrated characters (like Elton’s nan, Frank, Dick, Kiki, etc) but if I had to choose an overrated character I would probably have to say John Reid. I think he doesn’t get nearly enough hate just because of how handsome he is. In my opinion, if he looked more like the real guy, he would be treated more like how borhap fans treat Paul Prenter.
