There’s a Real Cool Club on the Other Side of Town
Science Club played at Milkboy in Center City / Convention Center / Gayborhood / Society Hill North Thursday night.
We played as guests of Rock on Philly, an online publication that talks about both local and national rock music acts and such. We were one of four bands selected to participate in their Spring Fling concert.
A quick note about Rock On Philly: the website is founded and managed by a woman named Jennifer Louge. Jenn and I worked together at my last job. When Jenn reached out to us to play the show, I initially thought Science Club was benefiting from nepotism. Turns out, she had no idea that the band she was seeking was, in fact, the band of her former co-worker. Life is funny sometimes.
The show was a battle of the bands. We did not win, but I did get to intimidate all the other bands from the stage.
Because this was a spring-themed show, we all wore sunglasses. It also works because we are a cool band. Only cool bands wear their sunglasses inside.
The show went fine. Not our best work, not our worst. We were a little sloppier than usual, which I chalk up to us playing our songs out of order, to us not practicing in the last few weeks due to scheduling conflicts, and due to the fact that I was a touch drunk. Still and all, I think we acquitted ourselves well. The band before us sounded like this, so I was happy to bring something different to the proceedings.
The next show is on April 25 at 502 South. It will be a West Philly house show, and it's going to be a very special occasion. Stay tuned.
