But everything you do makes my heart race. I can't even think straight. Is this just a game to you?
You were in your room getting ready to go out as Roderick would soon be picking you and Cedric up. To be quite frank, you would rather be spending your Saturday with anyone else but the sacrifices mothers made for their children, right? Cedric was still wearing the plain outfit he was given to you guys in which reminded you why this shopping trip was so necessary.
Soon you heard loud music playing outside your house which was subsequently followed by a text from Roderick, alerting you of his arrival. As if the music blasting just outside your window wasn’t enough.
You let your parents know you were leaving before heading outside with Cedric on your hip. You made a mental note to buy a stroller too as it would be more convenient.
“Hey, what’s up pretty lady?” Roderick spoke cockily when he saw you step out. Before you could get to the other side of the truck he got out and ran around quickly to open the door.
“For you m’lady,” He said bowing dramatically while smirking.
“Do you ever take a break from being an idiot? Or is this how you go through life?” You say as you sat down in the passenger seat of his truck.
“It’s just part of my natural charm,” He replied before running a hand through his dark brown hair.
“I think we have different definitions of the word ‘charm’,” You teased, tone softer than it had been moments ago. Roderick softly rolled his eyes while smiling before closing your door and getting in the car.
“So where to?” He spoke after a few minutes of driving. You just looked at him incredulously.
“I thought you knew, you mean we’ve just been driving to nowhere land?”
“Well, I mean.. I have a place in mind, but I didn’t…”
“Well I wasn’t sure if you would like it.”
You just stared at him for a moment.
“There’s no reason for you to be so… well whatever, just take us to the place,” You muttered out. For whatever reason your chest felt a little tight. You began to wonder what he thought of you. The two of you spent the rest of the car ride in silence. Well mostly, if you consider silence to be two people not talking while a baby cries and refuses to be soothed. I guess he didn’t like seeing his parents at odds with one another.
As Roderick’s truck pulled into the parking lot, you glanced over at the store and could already tell how this was going to go. Roderick hopped out of the truck while you took your time getting out. You noted that he didn’t open the car door for you but it wasn’t like he was obligated to. And he was definitely just teasing earlier. And this whole thing really doesn’t mean anything.
You quickly realized now wasn’t the place or time to freak out about whatever this was so you took a deep breath to steady yourself before catching up to him and walking in alongside him.
“What is this place?” You questioned, looking around with caution written all over your face.
“A really cool clothing store!” He exclaimed.
“And this is the first thing that came to mind when I said we needed to get clothes for Cedric?”
“Yeah, so he can be a mini me. You know, gotta follow in his daddy’s footsteps and all that.” He said as he gently took Cedric from your arms. In the nicest way possible, you were horrified. This was completely out of your comfort zone. As you moved to suggest to wait outside, you remembered the look on his face when he first told you about the place and decided to suck it up.
As you two are walking a guy comes up to Roderick.
“Hey dude, how’ve you been? It’s been a while since I’ve seen you here.”
“Schools kicking my ass and my parents have been on me about it but otherwise I’ve been good. I even have a child now,” He replied.
The guy or well Roderick’s friend, whose name you did not know, then glanced down at the baby in his arms and then at you.
“Woah, is she your girlfriend?” You stared at him incredulously before interrupting whatever Roderick was going to say.
“No, I’m just his partner for our project that involves taking care of a baby.” You say, clearing things up quickly. You had noticed the look that Roderick gave you but decided to ignore it for now.
“Oh my bad, well I’m Ludwig and I can help you guys out today. What’d you guys come here to get? Wait no, don’t tell me,” He spoke as he closed his eyes and brought his fingers to his temples before opening them suddenly.
“I know, baby clothes, right?” He said proudly as if this was some big accomplishment. You just took it in stride and decided to match his energy.
“Yes! Could you bring us to the section?” You asked, smiling brightly. Roderick did a double take at your expression, as if he didn’t believe you could smile like that.
The two of you followed Ludwig and you thanked him before he headed back over to the register.
“Just let me know if you cool dudes need anything else.” He trailed off, leaving after he put up a peace sign.
“So what are we getting Cedric?” You asked Roderick as it was his idea to come in here in the first place.
“No duh, actually I don’t even know why I asked. Let’s just pick up some onesies and get out of here.” You said, ignoring the fact that he was in some kind of mood.
Soon your shopping endeavors wrapped up. You were pleasantly surprised as you had managed to find a cute assortment of light yellow onesies and some baby blue ones. You and Roderick were now in his car and he was dropping you off. Once again the car ride was silent.
By the time you guys pulled into your driveway, you had made a decision and subsequently chickened out.
The second you heard the soft sound of the door unlocking you grabbed the bags and Cedric before closing the door, almost slamming it, and rushing inside your house.
Roderick sat there in his truck for a long drawn out moment before whisper screaming and burying his hands in his hair.
You hadn’t even realized that you left your lip gloss.
Reruns every night. It's always the same fight and I think you should know.
