Full Chapter 214 under the cut!
SPOILERS
Rodney disparaging the false Earl Warwick’s tacky, slipshod disguise:
Just a thought, could Rodney be Polaris?
I mean, Mordi feels too obvious at this point, but Rodney fits the bill, especially with the eyes.
If you look at the chin and eyes there is something similar to them.
On top of that the blood pattern in the bathroom is eerily similar to both the room Sebastian found and Agni's death.
I bet the damn knives are hiding in the hotel cart.
Aight, so I think we can all agree the trolley mention wasn't just for show. Rodney definitely had whatever weapon he used hidden under there (or did he?)
Food service trolleys back then were pretty similar to modern ones (they haven't changed THAT much, a trolley is a trolley). Sure, he could've concealed some knives beneath a cloth or tray, but a larger weapon would've been hard to hide without someone noticing.
Now this scene:
I can definitely believe the victim put up a fight, there's literally a handprint on the window. My guess is he got hit from behind. And judging by the blood spatter on the wall, that cut is way too clean to have been made with some tiny knife that would've been concealed in or on the trolley.
Given the sheer brutality of this scene, I again just don't buy a standard little knife. Yeah, severing a major artery can absolutely send blood spraying everywhere, but this is way beyond that. The victim was obviously dismembered too, and making this kind of mess with a tiny blade would've taken an absurd amount of hacking. The clean cuts make me think something much larger was used.
So now I'm wondering... was there another person in the room with a larger weapon, or is Yana hiding some advanced weapon we haven't seen yet? 🤷♀️
Kuro side characters: Layla, Ada, Rodney and Clayton (MY GOAT)
Kuro has a lot of character that get used and then are never seen again but some of them are so memorable
9 new BB characters in 4 chapters
Y'know, I was rereading the last few chapters and thinking that there may be a slight chance that Yana is introducing the different settings and characters at a fast pace to distract us readers from figuring out early who's important and who's side game.
Because not only did we meet 9 new characters throughout the last 4 chapters, but we also received a huge amount of historical facts and trivia. Could be just Yana's enjoyment of historical facts and all, but I like to think she may be planning for bigger plot twists.
So I was looking at the new characters so far, wondering who could be the most relevant to the arc and why. Keep in mind it's all up in the air for now, but that's what makes it fun.
Barnabus Fairchild III
Who is he ? Manager of Nectar Springs Hotel, probably a member of the Aurora society & one of UT's sponsors. Maybe a Bizarre Doll?
Showed interest in ? Both Seb & Ciel, claiming he knew their true identities, but basically looked more concerned by blood on his hotel floor.
Relevance ? probably doesn't go further than him being highly involved with the Aurora society and/or being a BD.
Rodney Hall
Who is he ? A bellboy. He seems aware of what's going on in this hotel though.
Showed interest in ? Actually he showed a lot of interest in Ciel's shining outfit... Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up looking up to Seb, somehow. Could he be an ex-thief ? Or still a thief ?
Relevance ? probably a part of the Aurora society as he apparently knew who Modri Vladis was ? He seems strong too, since he actually restrained him. Hardly more than a fighter for this arc, probably.
Modri Vladis
Who is he ? One of Sebastian's (many) past victims, #drama king. Probably a Bizarre Doll as he was getting a blood transfusion when he was introduced.
Showed interest in ? Sebastian exclusively, didn't even glance at Ciel.
Relevance ? Probably a BD with a link (true or forged) to Seb's past. As such he probably will be very relevant in this arc.
Miss Hoffman
Who is she ? Apparently one of the resort's cleaning ladies
Showed interest in ? Literally nothing, she was even unfazed by her boss licking the floor she had just cleaned.
Relevance ? Probably simply a fighter, like Rodney Hall.
"Prospero & Ariel"
Who are they ? Actors who are performing one of Shakespeare's plays for children
Showed interest in ? neither Ciel nor Seb
Relevance ? Probably irrelevant but who knows really
An unnamed scary person
Who is he ? Polaris/Joker ? Another past victims of Seb ? Soma ? Hard to say yet.
Showed interest in ? both Ciel and Seb, it seemed
Relevance ? Probably quite relevant, otherwise their identity wouldn't be so well hidden.
Irina Petrovna & Miles Kennard :
Who are they ? nobles (is she?) who are involved with charity events for children (they mention a charity that rescues victims of British shipwrecks specifically, like the Campania shipwreck maybe ?)
Showed interest in ? Kennard appeared quite interested in Irina, whereas she was very interested by our!Ciel.
Relevance ? Probably none for Kennard actually, which is interesting since Ciel mentioned him at the end of the chapter, rather than focusing on Irina who was trying very hard to make acquaintance with him.
Specifically, when it comes to Irina's possible relevance : besides the fact that she received many positive comments from the fandom upon her introduction, she was also depicted as a charitable grieving widow which, as I pointed out before, is not necessarily good news.
Additionally, 99% of the female cast of Kuroshitsuji is made of very clever, talented & strong women, who are often fighters or geniuses, the only exception so far being Irene Diaz (who is "simply" a talented opera singer who has many lovers, #queen) and maybe Paula.
So Irina's beauty is probably a narrative trap in more way than one : either she's a villain, to follow on the "charitable but cruel" theme we've seen a few times in the series. Or she's not a villain, but she will still be relevant in the arc, as her interest in Ciel seems to hint.
Last but not least, she has a very heavily rose themed outfit...
...which is a very Phantomhive-ish symbol to wear, just saying.
Some fans in the Japanese fandom are half-joking that she's actually BD!Claudia (because of the roses in her hair and all over her gown, as well as the mole which reminds them of Vincent), but I fail to see how UT would be okay to let her take a stroll with Kennard when he's spending time with real!Ciel. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ on the other hand if that's truly how Yana decides to introduce Claudia in such a surprising way, I will literally forgive her for everything
TL;DR top 3 probably most relevant new characters for this arc, as of ch217 :
Modri Vladis -> big interest and link (?) to Seb
unnamed person hiding in the shadows -> Polaris ? Interested in both Seb & Ciel
Irina Petrovna -> seems quite interested in our!Ciel + wears a lot of roses, which is a sign usually associated with the P family.
It's also possible that there is a massive introduction of "new" characters because Yana's planning a mass massacre. Either way, can't wait !
Chapter 218: The Butler, Enhancing
The new chapter is now out!
The English translation is available on MangaUp! and at other places too.
Ciel and Sebastian return to the Nectar Springs Hotel for dinner, and their arrival has not gone unnoticed...
