there’s an interview nez did in 2019 talking about his career and guitars he used/liked etc., and he tells a funny story about how when the monkees were on tour in seattle, right before a show his gretsch (the one you see on the tv show) screwed up and wouldn’t turn on. freaking out, the monkees roadies went running around and came back later, somehow having found the byrds who were also playing in seattle, with a new black rickenbacker 12 string. they told nez, “we found roger, he says you’re more than welcome to use this guitar, but be careful, it’s strung backwards.” and nez was like uuuuuuhHHHhhhhh how do i play that....... but he played it anyway and it was a mess, lol.
