So a couple of nights ago, I had this right-before-sleep Teen Wolf dream that was sort of D&D meets A:TLA where Derek was second in line to a throne that was highly coveted by many corrupt courtiers, and his parents were assassinated and Peter got all the kids out okay, but they all had to go into hiding until they could reclaim the throne (which is now being ruled by Deucalion). Derek became like a Ranger/Fighter type, going from kingdom to kingdom looking for allies and traveling with his 'bodyguard/cohort' (spoiler alert: it's Laura).
And Stiles is a thief whose father is Captain of the City Watch (he wears a mask while thieving). Scott is his faithful friend (knows he's a thief, doesn't care - especially since Stiles has kept him and his mom from starving more than once). Stiles' dad used to be a Paladin in the same cadre as Scott's dad, but Scott's dad chose religious fervor over his family, and the death of Stiles' mother broke his father's faith, so now he's just a regular, highly skilled fighter with a justice-oriented mind, which makes Stiles' thievery so much more awkward.
His mother was a sorceress that specialized in elemental magics (that's where the whole A:TLA thing comes in)
Anyway, Derek rolls through town and Stiles manages to pick both his and Laura's pocket, and then when they get an audience with the King (Chris Argent), he says he'll help if they complete a quest for them - one that incidentally requires that they have a thief in the party. Derek by now has realized that his pocket has been picked, and has traced his memories back to the moment where he'd been stolen from (and he's still a werewolf in this) so he just nods and says he thinks he can manage that, and then he tracks Stiles back to his house.
Awkward.
So then Derek's holding Stiles' secret thievery and the loss of his father's love and respect over Stiles' head, so Stiles agrees to the dangerous quest (they tell his dad that it's a request from the king, which he can hardly refuse) so long as they also bring Scott (Scott's mom is a healer, and Scott's been training with her and also with Deaton, the vet)
The king sends Isaac with them (as a bard, although really, it's more like 2 levels of bard/4 levels rogue/4 levels assassin) even though Derek's like, 'ugh, bards', and off they go to find and rescue princess Allison, who went to visit her aunt Katherine and hasn't yet returned. Kate swears up and down that Allison left with her guard a week ago, but Chris knows his sister and he suspects that something is up.
They make sure that Stiles doesn't just run off by tethering him to Derek with magic (magic bracelets. Go too far, instant leash). Stiles complains because the bracelet's heavy and he spends almost the entire time picking locks to retrain that hand to handle precision work with that specific weight. Also picking pockets. He picks his party's pockets for practice. Mostly Scott, because Scott is a willing, helpful person, but also everyone else to see if he can (and he has to use his left hand, which makes it harder because he's right hand dominant and his right hand is where the bracelet is because no one bothered to ask him which hand he used most for thieving. Not that he'd volunteer that particular answer. The justice system for thieves was 'pick a pocket, lose that hand' and he liked his where they were).
And at night, when he's pretty sure everyone's asleep, he sneaks off a short way and practices his magics. Isaac finds out almost immediately (light sleeper). So does Derek and Laura (same reason). Isaac says nothing because 'secret weapon'. Laura says nothing because, well, she mostly doesn't talk unless it's just her and Derek. Secret identity and all that. Derek doesn't say anything because he's a giant creeper who watches Stiles from the shadows 'to make sure he doesn't run off' (although, at first this is the case, it slowly becomes an 'admire from afar' thing).
They meet the others along the way. I don't know how it ends, I didn't get that far.
