Dark Souls
Yeah okay so I'm way behind on some releases and I have only just gotten around to grabbing a copy of dark souls. Now I previously knew nothing about this game before I saw it in CEX but I ended up buying the prepare to die edition, I'm something of a sucker for difficult games (I cite my love of rogue-a-likes and indie titles such as don't starve) and this had 'prepare to die' written in bold letters on the box so I figured 'hey why not'. Now my first impressions of this game where generally positive the tutorial isn't too invasive and the not overly lengthy. The enemies all look good and the boss fights feel cinematic and when you know you can lose a metric ass ton of XP (souls) you can end up white knuckling it like a 13 year old trying to unhook a girls bra. One thing I will say is that some of the more advanced aspects of this game are confusing and often overlooked (at least by me) for the first few hours of play resulting in a much rockier time than you'd have if you where intimate with the game mechanics. But like a stern father figure if you pass this games tests it welcome you with open arms and you'll find yourself immersed to a degree I haven't managed in quite some time... Probably since morrowind. The difficulty scaling between the bosses and regular enemies is an interesting point as the minor enemies get to be fairly easy and predictable unless encountered in large numbers. Whereas in juxtaposition to this the bosses can absolutely decimate you within seconds if your timing is even a few milliseconds off. All in all this is a really solid game with constantly engaging combat mechanics and a difficulty level that stays constant throughout, even when going through lower level areas if you bite off more than you can chew your buying yourself a one way ticket to ass rape city (no lube).
"jCrawler" is nearing completion
My game "jCrawler" has come a long way but it is nearly done! This has been a bit of a journey into my abilities in creative programming and to finally make a game which is something I’ve always wanted to do.
I have to mention that "jCrawler" is only a project name, and the actual name will be revealed on release.

...Wait, no! Imagine a dungeon crawler where your next move might constantly be your last...
Hmm, that's not it either. Okay. Imagine a roguealike with a sense of humour and a variety of of outcomes.
No...that's not it.
jCrawler is all these things and more! A text adventure inspired, dungeon crawling roguealike with a sense of humour and a twist.
It's currently in development by one of our programmers, Fahzor and is being written in jquery. Updates will be posted here as and when they arise, so watch this space!
