Just some thoughts about Laura in the Stardust AU with @rogues-and-royals below the cut!
Laura is a shapeshifter. She is careful to not shift in front of people, after it caused her to be caught by a witch and enslaved by her for a number of years. She worked as a barmaid of the inn, and generally changed her appearance to fit the needs or likes of the current guests per the demands of her keeper, until she was sold to Septimus.
She has spent most of her life wandering Stormhold - she hasn't really had a place to call home, and she'd never consider the inn a home. Her mother tossed her out upon finding she was a shapeshifter, not wanting to deal with the trouble she'd bring. The only things she carries with her is a small cosmetic bag and a book. At one point, Laura had a small knife, but it was confiscated by the witch upon her capture.
Her eyes can be the thing that betrays her. They are the one thing she has trouble keeping in control, despite being so skilled with her powers. Her natural eyes are brown, a deep, muddy brown, but have a tendency to vary depending on her emotions. Happiness can be blue - or even the odd color of violet.
Due to being kept as a slave by the witch, Laura has become docile in fear of getting hurt or reprimanded, as she was the first years of service. It is far different from what she'd like to be, a strong, adventurous woman with a fiery personality. It was smothered, and she hopes to get it back one day.

She had tripped and plowed into him, which led to Alistair stumbling backwards and tripping over his pack, until both of them were a pile of limbs on the ground.
Caught somewhere between anger, exasperation, and amusement, Alistair pointed out, “If you stopped trying to steal my stuff, things like this probably wouldn’t happen.”

Aless is probably like: You’re gonna catch me anyways ono
She’s just being proactive xD

Alistair set aside the piece of armor he was polishing, cracked his back as he got to his feet, and pulled open the door. He stared at her for a moment, before offering a flat, “I’m pretty sure this isn’t how theft works. You’re a little conspicuous.

He isn’t fond of Val Royeaux. Perhaps it’s because of the people, or the atmosphere that surrounds the capital of Orlais. There are countless reasons why he doesn’t like the place, why he avoids coming if he can help it. Kaaras stands in the marketplace, aware of those staring at him as he attempts to barter with a merchant. Apparently that isn’t something Orlesians do.
