Rokurou x Velvet: (31): "He's basically her sworn sword and is completely supportive of her (less than ethical) methods of revenge because he's a demon that has allegedly lost the ability to feel emotions. Despite this, his debt to her means everything to him (he retained his sense of honor and was taught to always pay back a debt, even with his life) and he's one of the most considerate people on the team, apologizing if he causes any offense and never prying when told to back off. Due to his lack of/blunted emotions he's very easygoing yet passionate of everything he does, living in the moment. She's a demon full of rage and grief and love that has retained her emotions (something I think he finds intriguing) and unwittingly gained his loyalty. She's suspicious of his 'debt' but grows to trust and appreciate his support. I feel like they're a link back to their own humanity, her through learning to trust someone again and him slowly starting to feel emotions again. She thanks him. He says he's glad she was the one to incur that debt from him at the end."

I got Tales of Berseria on Steam because it was on sale and like I always do, I found a new ship to latch onto (Rokurou and Velvet), which inevitably spirals out into dreaming up AU fic ideas that I'll never write because my brain is great at spitting out concepts but not so much the actual making them real part.

Case in point, currently sitting on a Vampire Velvet AU:

Rokurou is in some kind of exile, either he fucked up or Shigure framed him but regardless, he can't go home

Velvet was able to coexist with her family and village for a time, but a certain incident forced her to go on the run

Either Velvet ends up saving Rokurou from some kind of bandit ambush and we get the same kind of "life debt" situation from the game, or Rokurou happens upon Velvet some moonlit night where she's weak from not having fed in a while and she's forced to feed on him. Tropes follow from there.
