Mirra Andreeva, Roland-Garros 2026, women's champion
PARIS — Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva was already a tennis phenom at age 15.
At 19, she’s a Grand Slam champion.
The eighth-ranked Andreeva ended the run of 114th-ranked Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the French Open final on Saturday.
Andreeva became the youngest player to win the women’s singles title since Monica Seles, who was 18 when she landed her third straight French Open in 1992.
Chwalinska was attempting to become the first qualifier to capture the Roland Garros title.
When Andreeva executed a backhand cross-court winner on her first match point, she dropped on her knees to the clay to celebrate.

Every year since 1980, the French Tennis Federation has commissioned a modern artist to create the official poster for the Roland-Garros tournament. This year, the FFT selected photographer Paul Rousteau to create the 45th tournament poster. Paul Rousteau brings Roland-Garros to the Seine.

this isn’t what I normally post about on my blog but I think it’s important to say. Naomi Osaka was just fined for refusing to talk to the press after her win at the French Open. She knew going into this that she would be fined and she’s doing this to bring awareness to the players mental health:
Now they’re threatening to disqualify her if she refuses to talk to the media and the statement they made is laughable:
Osaka is literally telling them with her actions that the current system doesn’t work for the mental health of the players. She’s using her position as a popular and wealthy player to bring these issues to light and this “joint statement from the four grand slams” is worded so nicely to shift the blame from them and pin it back on Osaka. Less popular and successful players face the same issues but don’t have the resources to make it happen.
I’m so disappointed in the tennis world right now. Osaka is one of the best women’s tennis players in the world and she has been using her position to bring awareness to causes close to her heart. They are looking for any excuse to disqualify her because she’s more than just an amazing tennis player. She’s also an activist and beloved and that scares the pants off of the people on charge. That statement is heavily biased against Osaka but it’s painted in flowery language and tries to claim “equality.” I strongly believe they wouldn’t be threatening Federer with a disqualification if he did the same thing.
