I'm having a hard time right now, mentally, but social media recently reminded me of Rolf Zuckowski, a German musician who has written SO many songs for kids with amazing messages.

One of his most famous, and one that makes me cry just about every time I hear it lately, is

"Ich schaff das schon" (engl.: I can do it")

It's about a child named Maike and the challenges she faces over the course of her life, and her realization in difficult times, that she is able to overcome those challenges.

The chorus is this:

"Ich schaff das schon, ich schaff das schon

It is, I'm almost certain, my favorite kids song, and I recommend it to everyone everyone everyone, in hard time and good times.

"This is a German version of God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen, and the lyrics are of a similar theme but not a direct translation. It's very religious and I am not even a little bit, but the mournful violins, the sad but still hopeful tone and the beautifully harmonised vocals get me every time. The lines "Und wem das Glück gegeben ist, zu glauben wie ein Kind, der findet eine Antwort da, wo sonst nur Fragen sind" (transl.: And those who are given the luck to believe like a child will find an answer where usually there's only questions) sometimes make me wish I was religious for the comfort and certainty that faith can bring."

Christmas Eve/Sarajevo (Trans Siberian Orchestra)

"On top of being an incredible metal/orchestral medley of "god rest ye merry gentlemen" and "carol of the bells", this arrangement was inspired by people who continued to play music in the ruins and often under fire during the siege of Sarajevo in 1990s, people like Vedran Smailović (who most famously played for 22 days in the ruined square for the 22 civilians killed by mortar rounds while waiting in line for bread) or the Sarajevo String Quartet who performed over 200 times in that time. Christmas Eve/Sarajevo makes me cry because it reminds me that there's still good in humanity even in hardest times  and circumstances, and that music brings people together both for mourning and for giving hope"
