The Caterpillar Roll is a delicious sushi roll featuring creamy avocado and savory eel, wrapped in seasoned rice and nori seaweed. It's named for its appearance resembling a caterpillar, making it a visually appealing dish.
Ingredients: 1 cup sushi rice, cooked and seasoned. 4 nori seaweed sheets. 1 ripe avocado, sliced. 8 oz cooked eel, sliced into thin strips. 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce. Sesame seeds, for garnish. Soy sauce, for serving. Pickled ginger, for serving. Wasabi, for serving.
Instructions: Lay a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface and cover it with plastic wrap. Place a nori sheet shiny side down on the mat. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori sheet, leaving a small border at the top edge. Place avocado slices and eel strips in the center of the rice. Drizzle teriyaki sauce over the filling. Roll the sushi tightly using the bamboo mat, pressing gently to seal. Remove the roll from the mat and place it seam side down on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 6-8 pieces. Arrange the pieces on a serving platter, shaping the roll to resemble a caterpillar. Garnish with sesame seeds. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
