in response to french romantic culture! im american but ive been living in france for a while now and I will say that public displays of romantic affection (kissing on street corners, cuddling on trains, etc) are Much more common in france than in the us. at least in my experience, it’s extremely rare to see that in the us but I see it daily here. (and it usually triggers my romance repulsion lol). so I cant speak to culture but at least daily life is more marked by physical romantic gestures :/
That is...interesting. So you’re saying that, in other countries (at least the usa), straight people don’t use the world like their love hotel? Damn, that must be nice. I didn’t think it was different elsewhere because it seemed to be the same in Germany. Is it also different in, like, schools/colleges? In mine, straights engage in pda 100% of the time, it’s almost worse than in the streets or on the subway (the subway was definitely the worst back when I lived in Paris). I wish it wasn’t something normal to do in public.
Those examples you give always trigger my romance repulsion, it’s very hard to exist as a romance-repulsed person outside. I often have panic attacks because it’s just too much (my closest friend, an alloromantic lesbian, also often sends me texts just reading “ew PDA” so I can be miserable with her because straight people are annoying, and she’s not even really romance-repulsed, it’s more of a “please be decent” matter for her, so I guess it does say something).
