Mission:
Pacific Park is an example of a new neighborhood emerging in Downtown Brooklyn due to the recent influx of people. This project connects the existing neighborhood with the new population through the incorporation of public space and amenities required in an urban community.
Abstract:
The transformation of Brooklyn was set into motion decades ago with the boom of the industrial period. Since then Brooklyn has been a major center of innovation, economic growth and cultural development. As a cultural hub Brooklyn has attracted business owners, artists and families over the years. From 2000 to 2013 the population has grown by 17 percent, resulting in a rebirth of downtown Brooklyn. The transformation of Brooklyn extends beyond the skyscrapers and is embedded in the culture and art of the city.
Pacific Park is located in Downtown Brooklyn and is a central transportation hub. The development of Pacific Park offers the community access to new jobs, public schools, and health centers. It includes all of the amenities of an urban community such as residential buildings, and 8-acre park, restaurants and shopping centers. Development in Brooklyn has reduced crime rate, increased public space and created new cultural centers. The design for this new neighborhood envisions a thriving community for past and future generations in Brooklyn.
