I really like ROM's approach to fantasy sci-fi discrimination. I think it's nice Jess gets to be an unrepentant asshole with no narrative repercussions and that literally all it takes to get taken off her shit-list is to just kinda shrug and go like yeah, that's how it goes. Like sure, not pleasant to deal with, but she's allowed to be mad and it's not framed in this weird pseudo-edgy "ooo.... but maybe...... There's A Reason" way? I also like the timing with her backstory and the human revolution interview, it makes for good framing, especially with the last "we're doing good work! we're giving bigots the courage to discriminate :)". It's kinda reassuring, y'know? Like, even if some milquetoast bozo goes out of their way to try and sympathize with HR they get slammed with this unapologetic and inexcusable bs. & it's esp engaging with how mild-mannered terrible elvis is b/c yeah, respectability politics only helps one side.
