Joanne Linville, 1928--2021
Multi-talented actress Joanne Linville was born on this day, Jan. 15th, in 1928. She's done tons of work on TV and film, but is known mostly for her one episode on Star Trek as a Romulan Commander.

Romulan Language, Culture, and History Sites (non-canon) Master Post (Updated 2-11-22)

I love romulans. It is no secret, but my nerding out knows no bounds. This is a master post for the best websites I know of for romulan language, culture, history, religion**, etc.
Do not just use the top one. Even though it is easy to navigate and has a diversity of information, it is missing some that others have. For example, the second one has actual lessons and great grammar charts, and the fourth one has culture and religion**. There is also some disagreement about grammar, culture, and definitions, since canon content is lacking.
Firstly, credit to Diane Duane’s books for bringing life to the romulans through language, culture, history, names, etc. Most sites and fans use her work as the base.
I recommend you read her books if you truly want to know everything you possibly can. They also contain information that is uncommon to see posted about, such as S’Task, romulan true/fourth/soul names (ST: Picard made that canon!), the three swords by S’Harien, and more. If you play Star Trek Online, after reading these books, things will make so much more sense!

When you are discussing how the holographic bees are able to transmit data, so you ask if there is a way to make a traceable signal that only the Romulans would be able to monitor and trace to its source, and you get a positive reply.

I feel like, if you're going to have a sci-fi/fantasy species show up regularly, and give them a few slivers of a language, you should just flesh out their language more fully so you have it for later.
Some people, like me, like fictional languages like Vulcan, Romulan, Ferengi, etc., and it's a bit of a shame when those languages aren't as fleshed out as they could be.
Language is one of the biggest tools for conveying a culture, and sci-fi/fantasy gives you the opportunity to really explore some beautiful and fantastical world building that you couldn't otherwise. If you flesh out a species' language and culture just that extra bit more, you can make the world more immersive and believable.
You don't even have to use all of your worldbuilding, you can say like "Oh, I'm from a different part of Ferenginar," and now you get a little more of a believable world with just that one line. Multiculturalism, even if not as fleshed out as the Standard culture you've made, more than likely exists in these species, unless their pasts have some explicit reasons it wouldn't.
Better to have and not use, than to not have and be making things up as you go.
