Just to spell it out – blog arguments are not run before impartial juries with objective fact checking in place. Most resemble after-hour schoolyards where taunting is the rule and the winner is the guy with the loudest cohorts.

Two to Tango

Of course it is not a perfect equivalence. I appreciate that it was not rejected out of hand as a false equivalence. It was close enough for me to get a chuckle. The fact that there is a giant thread here about this indicates a desire to communicate, to be understood. It takes two to tango – and when one partner is asking that the other do all the work, it doesn’t work so well.

Of course, in tango, usually, one leads, one follows. But on that rare occassion, there can be a dance where the lead shifts from one to the other and back again not in a jerky parody of a dance, but in submission/harmony/accordance/acknowledgment of the logic of the dance itself. This might be by shifting in smooth acquiescence to that larger narrative or by dramatic, almost harsh, movements responding to the immediate needs of one dancer or the other – which in harmony, is really the needs of both. Such moments, unchoreographed, are rare, but beautiful/memorable/awesome. Such moments, without harmony, are painful disasters to watch, to dance. Broken clockworks, jarring arrhythmia. Choreographed, they are just empty reflections of the real thing.

The tit-for-tats between Trenberth, Tobis, this blog, and others are but of a moment, lost in time, not worth remembering.
