Room 12 (Justice Department)
“Why do I still see you?” A yellow skinned woman asked Lukas.
Sugar looked distraught when she saw the Hellkeeper leave without looking back. Without trying to save her.
“Good. Sugar.” The woman dressed in red turned around and looked at her. “I want you to think very hard. What did you do that got you arrested?” She asked.
“I… I don’t remember.” Sugar said after thinking for a few seconds.
“Come on.” A green skinned man said. His white robes a big contrast to the red dress the woman wears. “You have to remember something.”
“Osiris.” The woman said firmly. “Don’t interrupt me and my client”
“I don’t remember a thing.” Sugar said again. Looking straight at Osiris.
“Okay, Sugar.” The woman said. “As your lawyer, I need to know everything you remember. If Osiris needs to leave the room, he’ll go.” She continued, purposefully ignoring the objections that Osiris makes.
Sugar looked distant. Her eyes not fixed on anything at all. “Who are you again?” She asked after a minute of awkward silence.
The yellow skinned lawyer let go of a sigh. “My name is Maat. I’m your lawyer and the only one that will get you out of this place in one piece.” She said.
“Can’t you ask me questions to help me remember or something. I just want to go back to the Hellkeep.”
Osiris stood up and approached Sugar. He laid a hand on her shoulder. “For now you won’t be able to do that. As long as you’re being accused of whatever it is, you’re not allowed to leave this room.”
“Questions I suppose.” Maat said. “What is your name?”
“Sugar.” Maats client answered.
“Any Titles?” The Lawyer continued.
“I don’t think I have public ones.” She started.
“Worshipper of the Collected” Osiris interrupted before she could start the next sentence.
Maat looked at Osiris with a judgemental look in her eyes but wrote it down. “What did you do to earn that?” She asked Sugar.
“Upset Bastet.” The client answered.
“What is Sugar being accused of exactly?” Osiris asked.
“Murder in the first degree.” Maat said plainly.
“And you don’t remember a thing?” Osiris asked in shock
“No. I don’t.” Sugar said equally in shock.
“Well then, it seems like we’re having a small problem then, don’t we?”
“I might know a person.” Osiris said.
Soon after that another woman entered the room. Osiris greeted her with a lot of respect. “Nephthys. I’m glad you could make it.”
The woman looked at Osiris with warmth in her eyes. “Of course, brother. What do you need me to do?”
Osiris looked at Sugar. “I need you to bring her to a subconscious state.”
Sugar looked bewildered to Osiris. “What do you mea-” Their eyes rolled back and they slumped down in their chair.
Sugar was in a dark and empty room. There didn’t seem to be walls, no roof, no light, no door, no exit. Nothing.
“Sugar, Remember what you did this morning.” Maat voice called out, Sugar didn’t see her but suddenly the room changed and she stood in the halls of the Hellkeep, walking outside.
On her way she crossed paths with Polites in his maids outfit. He was smiling about something. Sugar didn’t know what, but she also knew that Polites would share it once he was ready for it.
Before she could leave the Hellkeep, a woman called out and Sugar looked behind her to see Bastet standing in the reception area. The Goddesses mouth opened and closed, but Sugar couldn’t hear a word she was saying.
“Where did you go next?” Maat asked.
The halls disappeared and Sugar stood on the streets of Hell. She almost got run over by a carriage passing by, the Hellhorses paying no attention to anyone in front of them. She crossed the street and had the feeling she was being watched. When she turned around, all she could see were people getting scammed by a random street-vendor. He sold “Sunshine” in a bottle and “Rainwater” in a little flask for the low-price of 500 Soul Coins.
Still Sugar felt watched, and when she looked closer, she noticed a person standing in front of a window of a rundown building.
“Something else?” Maats voice asked again.
Sugar stood in an alleyway. Surrounded by different creatures. The biggest of them looked down on Sugar and snorted once. Again the mouth moved, but Sugar didn’t hear words. At the end of the alley, she could see that hooded figure again, a pair of blue eyes watched
From behind her, one of the smaller creatures jumped her.
She woke up in her chair with the three gods looking at her in shock.
Maat sighed. “This will be a long night.”
