Begin Rant.
I live in a three bedroom townhouse in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I cannot stand my roommates.
I live with a couple. She is Puerto Rican and he is from the Dominican Republic. They are both 20 years old. They recently got engaged and they have two puppies. I have been living with them since October.
Other than the fact that they never clean the bathroom, do their dishes, or even wipe off the kitchen counters, there are so many more problems I never thought I would have to put up with when living with roommates.
Back in December, their non-vaccinated puppies gave my 2 year old Husky Golden Retriever worms. I had to pay well over $400 for the emergency vet bills.
Since I moved in, their dogs have eaten three pairs of my shoes, pulled up half of the carpet in our living room, and strewn trash all over the house on multiple occasions. Not to mention they let their non-potty-trained pups run around the house throughout the day while they are gone and they pee and poop on the floor. And if they aren't running around the house, they are both in one small crate and they bark constantly. Sometimes they even fight in their crate!
In January, I had to explain to the male what "supplementary heat" meant on our thermostat when our electric bill was well over $300. I explained to him that it was our emergency heat and it makes our electric bill skyrocket.
Everything went pretty well after that. They started cleaning the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated. Even if it was just a little. Then I had Spring Break from JMU. I went and spent the week at my mother's house. When I came back to my house that Sunday, it was disgusting. The kitchen had dishes piled up in the sink, on the stove, you name it. We ran out of trash bags and they didn't go buy more, they just let it pile on our kitchen table. Our bathroom was GROSS. I cleaned that night because I couldn't stand it but they didn't get the hint. They still didn't clean anything up after that. I guess a month and a half is their limit on actually doing stuff around the house or they just thought that the maid finally came home and they didn't have to do any cleaning. Not to mention, we have our own dishes and whatnot and all of mine were dirty as well... and I hadn't used any of them. There were caps from beer bottles thrown all over the floor too (keep in mind, they are both underage.)
On April 1st, they let my dog out and I almost lost her forever. They tried telling me that it was no big deal. That was my last straw. I called my landlord and told her I wanted out. She told me I had no legal obligation to stay after everything they had put me through and I needed to give my roommates a 30 day notice of my intent to vacate the premises. I paid April's rent and that was it. I now have a total of 23 days left in this hell.
Today, I flipped out for hopefully the last time. I went downstairs at about 2 PM and the emergency heat was on again. Please keep in mind that it's Spring. It might be rainy outside but it is not THAT cold. Besides, we have normal heat, if needed. There's no reason for the emergency heat to be on. Period. End of story. Of course, I asked them and neither one of them turned it on... So I made the comment, "Well obviously a ghost is turning it on." According to her, that was "Fucking disrespectful." Then we started screaming at each other and I got called a bitch. Well excuse me for not wanting to pay $150 for my half of the electric bill for APRIL. It shouldn't be remotely close to that much!
All in all, I promise to myself that from this day forward, I will not EVER live with a random person I find off Craigslist. I will live with my friends or someone I know well. I am never putting myself through this again. So here's to hopefully having my own place soon!
End Rant.
