iris loves the outdoors and also longs to be the smartest kid in school.

residing in willow creek their entire lives, both girls were raised by their single mother, melanie -- who also single-handedly manages the eponymous rooney’s café. angelica has led a peaceful, humble, and happy life for sixteen years. always the same school, the same best friend ... up until now. the start of her junior year.

this year is already different.

mel is drowning in bills and once-distant thoughts of having to close down the café someday are becoming more and more real. their happy hideaway is turning into something darker with every passing day.
