Rooster and I went to Lake Padden last night after I had a particularly rough day and we hung out with ducks. During the summer, rooster and the hens love to spend time in our front yard. There's one spot in particular that the hens and rooster both love - it's a tiny patch of dirt under a tree. Rooster will often try to dig a hole and then lay down in the shade. The hens, when rooster's not there, will often take dirt baths in the same area. Found a daisy yesterday and showed it to some of the animals. I even put it on both Milo and rooster's heads to see how long they would allow it to reside there. Unsurprisingly, rooster had significantly more patience for my shenanigans than Milo. I've just learned so much from taking care of animals. Rooster has been doing so well the past week or so. I was worried about him being a senior dog when we were planning and getting ready for the surgery but he just seems so much happier without the problem teeth and has been recovering so well. It's nice to have some good news in the midst of everything else.

25 years ago today, @awkwardkris came into this world and things changed for the better. Meeting her underneath that lamp post during orientation weekend was one of the best things that's happened to me and she's honestly one of the best people I know. Kirsten is the embodiment of "do no harm but take no shit" and I admire the hell out of her for everything she's accomplished in life. She's my best friend and one of my heroes and I count my lucky stars every single day we're friends. She kept me sane during college, even that one night she chased after a possum while we walked back to our dorm. She always knew the right ways to make me feel better, all the right ways to make me laugh when I was stressed. I haven't seen her in years and it always feels like a tiny part of me is missing because of that. She's the best person I know and deserves all the happiness and love today and every day. Rooster and I can't make it to any of the marches or protests today (turns out that a one eyed senior dog who isn't good in crowds isn't the best protest companion). But we both stand in solidarity with all marginalized folks and all the folks marching and organizing against racism, misogyny, and more. Over the next four years, we're going to have to fight for: the climate, for each other, for ourselves. The fight against the DAPL continues, Planned Parenthood is always at risk for losing funding, LGBTQ+ folks continue to face violence (like conversion therapy for example). I believe in community, in indigenous sovereignty, in the earth, that black lives matter. To all those marching today, stay safe! Rooster and I are there in spirit.
